UFC Fight Night 101 Preliminary Results: Daniel Kelly Decisions Chris Camozzi

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, November 26th, 2016) will come from the in of UFC Fight Night 101. Headlining the card are Robert Brunson and Robert Whittaker, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Chris Camozzi vs. Daniel Kelly in a middleweight bout closed the preliminary card on Fox Sports 1. In round 1, both fighters were staying in tight and landing when possible. Right jab landing for Camozzi now but Kelly charges forward and lands a couple of overhands. Kelly turned up the heat halfway through the round. Kelly catches Camozzi with a big left hand, now working the clinch against the cage. Nasty elbow from Camozzi slices open a huge cut on Kelly’s forehead. Kelly gets a takedown to close out the round. In round 2, Camozzi lands a jab that sends blood streaming down Kelly’s face. Kelly took him down early and got on top in half guard. Kelly in side control now but Camozzi is trying to use the fence to advance to a better position. Camozzi is able to maneuver into full guard, but Kelly continues to work him over with strikes and elbows.  In round 3, Kelly continued to have blood pour out of his forehead like a waterfall. Kelly scored a late-round takedown and worked him over with strikes to end the round. The judges gave Kelly the decision victory. 

Damien Brown and Jon Tuck met in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Tuck scored an early takedown, but Brown went for a guillotine choke, but Tuck got out if it. Tuck rained down some big strikes while Brown made his way to his feet. Brown landed some good shots, but Tuck knocked him down with a huge right hand. Tuck got his back and worked him over with strikes while Brown was bleeding badly. Get that man a bucket.  In round 2, Brown came out fired up and was trying to help out the fans do the same thing. Brown was landing a series of wild kicks as he was bleeding. Tuck was staying in there and landing his shots. Tuck started to load up on his shots, only throwing one at a time. Brown pushing forward with combos and kicks. In round 3, Tuck lands a body kick and Brown slips on some blood; Tuck tries to capitalize, but Brown separates and they’re up to their feet. Brown’s face was covered in bloody. Sick fight. They exchanged to the finish. Brown edges out Tuck by earning a split decision victory.

Jonathan Meunier and Richard Walsh met in a welterweight bout. In round 1, not a ton of action in this round, both guys were conservative and trying to find his range. Meunier lands a spinning back fist then a big takedown with 30 seconds left, In round 2, more action in this round. Meunier continued to land spinning back fist while Walsh was looking to close the distance and get a takedown. Meunier went for a takedown of his own under two minutes to go in this round but couldn’t and they clinched for a moment.  In round 3, Walsh came out and clinched with him. Walsh changes levels and gets a takedown to open round three. Meunier able to get back to his feet but Walsh controlling him in the clinch. Meunier scored a takedown and got half guard on top, but Walsh scrambled to his feet. Walsh scored a takedown, but Meunier got to his feet to close the round. Meunier picked up the decision win. 

Geane Herrera vs. Ben Nguyen in a flyweight bout opened the Fox Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, flying side kick from Nguyen to start the fight. Herrera took him down, but Nguyen got right back to his feet. Nguyen followed up with a nice combo. Nguyen dropped him halfway through the round with a head kick, but Herrera got right back to his feet. Nguyen caught him with a nut shot. They exchanged to the end of the round. In round 2, Nguyen cracks Herrera with a nice overhand right-left hook combo. Herrera still coming forward, though. Herrera clinched with him, and Nguyen landed a series of strikes then a head kick. Herrera scored a takedown to end the round.  In round 3, they continued to strike, and as the round went on, Nguyen continued to pour on the strikes and pressure. Very impressive performance by Nguyen, who won the fight by decision.

Dan Hooker vs. Jason Knight in a featherweight bout finished off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. In round 1, Knight was very aggressive and knocked him down with a right hand, but Hooker got right back to his feet. They stayed close and were exchanging often. Knight scored a takedown with two minutes to go and got half guard. Hooker scrambled and got his back on the fence, but Knight stayed on him and was landed some big strikes. Knight locked in a rear naked choke but Hooker gout of it and got on top in guard to close out the round. In round 2, Knight scored an early takedown and got his back quickly as he locked in a body triangle. Knight worked for the rear naked choke. Knight kept the pressure on him with strikes but somehow Hooker survived. In round 3, Hooker opened up the round with a big head kick. They keep the fight on the feet for the majority of the round. Knight shot in for a takedown halfway through the round but was stuffed. Both fighters kept the action going and were bloody/bruised up. Knight picked up the decision victory.

Ning Guangyou and Marlon Vera met in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, Guangyou landed a spinning back kick to the body of Vera. Vera clinched with him up against the fence and worked him over with strikes. Vera jumped on his back while Guangyou was still standing then took him down and worked for a rear-naked choke. In round 2, Guangyou worked over his legs with kicks, but Vera closed the distance and scored a takedown halfway through the round. Guangyou scrambled and got on top and landed some strikes. Vera went for a kneebar, but Guangyou  got out of it. Guangyou stayed on top in half guard and worked him over with strikes. In round 3, Vera scored a takedown early in the round and got full mount and rained down strikes. He then scrambled to back mount, but Guangyou was able to get back to his feet around the halfway point. They exchanged to the finish. The judges gave Vera the decision win.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Jenel Lausa vs. Yao Zhikui in a flyweight bout. In round 1, Lausa landed a left hook right out of the gate. Lausa landed a leg kick then a right that stunned Zhikui. Lausa caught a kick and took him down just a minute into the round. Zhikui got right back to his feet, and Lausa stayed pressing forward. Lausa worked the body of Zhikui through the round. They had a wild exchange then Lausa dropped him then they had another exchange. In round 2, Lausa dropped him with a head kick just two minutes into the round then locked in the guillotine choke, but Zhikui got out of it. Zhikui scrambled and went for a triangle choke but Lausa got to his feet, and they went back to striking. Zhikui shot in for a single-leg takedown, but Lausa stuffed it. They clinch up against the fence then separated. Zhikui took him down under a minute to go and ground and pounded him. In round 3, Zhikui came out wild but was knocked down early in the round. Lausa landed a straight right hand over and over. Lausa rocked him badly near the end of the round with a right hand. Lausa picked up the decision victory.
