WSOF 8 Results Recap: Justin Gaethje and Anthony Johnson Score Big Finishes In Florida
The fight started with Gaethje rushing in, but he was met with some good shots from Patishnock. Gaethje responded with a ton of hard punches to wobble Patishnock. He unloaded a huge knee and a flurry of big shots to take home the very first WSOF 155-pound belt. It could have been called a bit of an early stoppage, but Patishnock wasn’t doing much to defend himself. Regardless, Gaethje moves to 11-0 and is the promotion’s deserving lightweight champion.
The event also featured a light heavyweight co-main event tilt between UFC veterans Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Mike Kyle. The two heavy-handed sluggers squared off in an affair not destined to last long. Utilizing improved kickboxing thanks to teammate Tyrone Spong, Johnson snapped a variety of kicks Kyle’s way before knocking him out with an absolutely vicious counter right hook. An impressive showing for “Rumble,” who has found a new home in WSOF.
In other action, Jessica Aguilar and Alida Gray faced off for the inaugural WSOF women’s strawweight title, but it wasn’t much of a match. Aguilar put on a clinic, taking down Gray up against the cage to land some ground and pound before locking on an arm triangle choke that ended the fight in the first round.
Rounding out the main card, TUF 18 castoff Cody Bollinger outstruck Tyson Nam to win a unanimous decision at bantamweight. In a battle of power-hitting lightweights, Luis Palomino floored Jorge Patino towards the end of the second round, following to the ground to earn a knockout finish and perhaps a shot at Gaethje in the near future.
