WSOF bantamweight title contender Marlon Moraes will go up against Josh Rettinghouse tonight, as the two battle it out for the promotion’s inaugural 135-pound belt. The Brazilian is currently on a six fight/three finish streak with his most recent being a brutal KO win over Carson Beebe at WSOF 6.

Also holding notable wins over Tyson Nam and Miguel Torres under the WSOF banner, Moraes is quite the hot prospect right now. He attributes his recent form to none other than former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, as he discussed with MMAWeekly:

“I had the opportunity to come here to New Jersey to train with Frankie Edgar, Ricardo Almeida, and Mark Henry,” said Moraes. “It was a good move. They have such a great camp here. It’s good to come here and have different training partners and different coaches. I feel like every day I’m learning more and more.”

Moraes heavy-handed style has seen him knock out five of 12 opponents, and he also has three submission victories under his belt. His excellent Muay Thai skills and brown belt in BJJ make him a formidable opponent at 135. Moraes continued:

“I just have to go out there and perform and do what I know what to do, I’m feeling much better now. I think I’m a much better fighter now than I was in my old fights. I keep getting better and better.”

“I had the opportunity to fight Miguel Torres, and I really wanted to fight that guy because he had a big name and it was a big opportunity and right after that people started talking about the belt,” said Moraes. “Now it’s my time. It’s my opportunity. Now I’ve got to go out there and do it. You don’t guys don’t blink. On March 29, I will be ready and I will entertain you guys for sure.”

Don’t blink is definitely an apt piece of advice, as his KO win over Beebes took Moraes just over 30 seconds. With a win tonight, the Brazilian banger would extend his win streak to seven and also earn his first title in major competition. I have a good feeling about World Series Of Fighting ahead of their ninth outing.
