Metamoris 6 Results: Josh Barnett Taps Ryron Gracie

ufc 188 josh barnett vs Roy NElson

Metamoris 6 went down tonight (May 9, 2015) from the Blackhouse Gym in San Diego, California. Despite being off-limits to the public and media members, the card had a solid lineup featuring some UFC vets as well as some decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners.

In the main event of the evening, current UFC heavyweight and Strikeforce veteran Josh Barnett met decorated grappler Ryron Gracie. Early on Barnett was able to drag Gracie to the ground, where Gracie was able to defend for some time. However, Barnett was able to seal the deal and force Gracie to tap via toe hold.

Outspoken retired UFC fighter Chael Sonnen took on another UFC veteran in Renato “Babalu” Sobral in the co-main event. This was actually a rematch in a sense as the two actually fought each other back at UFC 55, where Sobral scored a submission win over Sonnen. However, there matchup tonight did not end in similar fashion. Sonnen spent the majority of the contest on top, but did not look to pass the guard of “Babalu” too often. Sobral could not lock up a submission, and the bout ended in a draw.

Fan favorite UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon met Dillon Dannis in a solid contest. Dannis pulled guard early in the scrap, and later took Lauzon’s back establishing a body triangle and controlling the action. Lauzon eventually broke free of Dannis’ grip and tried for an armbar, but Dannis passed and locked in a d’arce choke, causing J-Lau to tap.

Xande Ribeiro squared off with Keenan Cornelius in another gi bout that saw Cornelius pull guard almost immediately. However, there were limited submission attempts from both men, causing the matchup to go the distance and end in a draw.

Clark Gracie took on Roberto Satoshi in a very exciting, action-packed contest that was actually fought with each man sporting the traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi. The two men went back and forth with each attempting numerous submissions including flying triangles, omaplatas, and arm bars. However, neither was able to force a tap and the matchup ended in another draw, albeit an exciting one.

In the main card opener, late replacement Evandro Nunes met Jimmy Friedrich in a closely fought match-up. Friedrich looked to be the aggressor throughout going for numerous submissions including an early knee bar attempt as well as a kimura attempt, but was unsuccessful both times. The two grappled back and forth with Nunes attempting an unsuccessful triangle late in the contest, resulting in the bout ending in a draw.
