Fans of UFC bantamweight champion and WMMA pioneer Ronda Rousey are still left wondering about who will be named as her next opponent. ‘Rowdy’ recently finished Sara McMann at UFC 170 with a gritty TKO, and looks to be evolving her game more and more.

The word from Joe Rogan’s recent radio appearance is that a ‘huge announcement’ is coming in regards to Rousey’s next opponent, but UFC president Dana White has recently shot the idea down; speaking with reporters recently, DW said:

“There’s nothing there, Joe Rogan said something on a radio station and it blew up from there. That’s it. I talked to Rogan and he apologized, and there’s nothing there.”

Suggestions from many fans included potential bouts with Cris ‘Cyborg’ Ivy-Justino, Gina Carano, Sylvester Stallone, Alexis Davis and Holly Holm. It appears that the latter may well be an option, as White reveals that he plans to meet with the women’s boxing champion this week:

“Yeah, I’m meeting with them this week. Don’t know (anything about her team), never met them. I’m going to meet them this weekend.”

Matter of fact and to the point, so not your typical DW interview. Currently 6-0 as a pro fighter in MMA, Holm is without doubt a realistic threat to the UFC’s female staff. She will face Juliana Werner at Legacy FC 30 in April, and an impressive win will likely see her sign up to the Zuffa club.

As a boxer, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ was the IBA and WBF welterweight boss, and sported a 33-2-3 record at the time of her crossover to MMA. Her nasty hands and kicks have seen Holm finish five within the distance, all by T/KO; wil;l she prove to be the undoing of dominant bw queen Ronda Rousey?

One thing is for sure, ‘Hottie’ is a rising MMA star and if she enters the UFC’ rankings unbeaten it would be hard to deny her a title shot. We’ll see how things play out, but Holm could well prove to be the first WMMA champion fighting out of Greg Jackson’s camp. What do you think?
