Could Gegard Mousasi And Mark Munoz’s Jobs Be On The Line At UFN 41?

02 Gegard Mousasi

Middleweight’s Gegard Mousasi and Mark Munoz will battle it out this weekend in the main event of UFC Fight Night 41 looking to get back to winning ways.

The 185 pounder’s are in desperate need of a win with both of them currently being in a rough patch in the UFC. It’s possible that Saturday’s loser may even find himself out of a job.

Despite being highly ranked in their division things have been hard recently for the future opponents. Munoz has alternated between wins and losses in his last three fights, taking just one win.

“The Filipino Wrecking Machine” was on a 7-1 run prior to his recent skid. Things began to go wrong for the 35-year old at UFC on Fuel TV 4 where he was knocked out by the divisions champion Chris Weidman with a perfectly timed elbow.

Munoz recovered from his loss to the “All-American” with a dominant unanimous decision over Tim Boetsch after beating up “The Barbarian” for fifteen straight minutes. However, he was unable to build on his victory as he knocked out a few months later by Lyoto Machida.

One more loss would put Munoz to 1-3 in his last four fights. I think it’s fair to say he will be going all out for the win on Saturday.

Despite having had just two fights inside the Octagon, Mousasi will also be under a lot of pressure to pull off the win. The former Strikeforce and Dream champion debuted for the UFC in April last year where he beat Illir Latifi in a unanimous decision.

Mousasi’s win over Latifi made him unbeaten in his last seven fights. He was hoping to extend that streak in his second fight in the UFC when he dropped back down to middleweight to face Lyoto Machidaa. But, “The Dragon” proved to be to much for the 28-year old and handed him the fourth loss of his professional career.

Both men are still capable of working their way back up the division and cracking into the top 5 again. But, as Yushin Okami found out, being one of the top fighters doesn’t guarantee you job security.
