Bellator 144 Results: New Bellator Middleweight Champion Crowned

Bellator 144 main event

Bellator 144 took place on Friday, October 23rd, 2015 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card aired on Spike following prelims online.

Here is the main card results:

Brandon Halsey (9-1) and Rafael Carvalho (12-1) met in a middleweight title bout as the main event. Halsey took him down in the early part of round one and almost won the fight by side choke, but couldn’t pull it off due to the heart of Carvalho. In the second round, Halsey attempted the same and got the same result. Once Carvalho got to his feet, he landed a sick liver kick that put Halsey down to the ground. Carvalho would finish him off with strikes to become the new middleweight champion.

Dennis Olson (14-10) and Brennan Ward (12-3) met in a welterweight bout as the co-main event. Ward took the fight to the ground, but Olson would later transition to the top position and landed some big strikes that resulted in Ward being busted open. Ward kept his composure and got back to his feet where he dropped and finished Olson to win the fight in the first round.

Isao Kobayashi (18-2-4) and Goiti Yamauchi (19-2) met in a flyweight bout. This fight mostly took place on the ground that saw both fighters have their moments. In the second round, Kobayashi was busted open by elbows that dramatically changed the momentum of the fight. After several attempts for submissions, Yamauchi locked in a rear-naked choke with just over a minute remaining in the fight for the win.

Opening the main card on Spike TV was Charlie Ontiveros (6-4) and Michael Page (9-0) in a welterweight bout. Page took him down early in the fight and finished the fight in side control with elbows in the first-round. The referee told the commentators that Ontiveros broke his jaw.
