Early in the fight it was Almakhan that was getting the better of Topuria in the exchanges. The speed of the Kazakh fighter was exceptional. He dropped the favourite with a leg kick and landed great knees in the clinch as he scampered around the end of the octagon. The latter stages of the round included a great hip toss from Topuria and a slight momentum shift.

The older brother of Ilia Topuria felt a grappling edge in the first round and went immediately for the takedown in round 2. In a similar vein to his brother Topuria stalked Almakhan but was unable to capitalise on the offensive pressure. He bloodied the nose of his opponent but could not get the finish and Almakhan returned to his stool.

A strong right hand caught Almakhan clean against the cage and dropped him he popped back up but got dropped again.
