Anthony Johnson Vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Official For UFC On Fox 12

Following his demolition of Phill Davis in his Octagon return, Anthony Johnson is set for his second bout in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division.

“Rumble” will meet Brazilian legend Antonio Rogério Nogueira at UFC on Fox 12 in San Jose officials revealed today. Nogueira vs. Johnson is the first official bout to be booked for the July card.

UFC on Fox 12 is set to take place inside the SAP Center (formerly known as the HP Pavilion) in San Jose, California. The card will be the forth event to take place at the venue in as many years. The last UFC event to be held in the SAP Center was in 2013 where Anthony Pettis took on Benson Henderson for his lightweight title.

The main event is yet to be revealed but Johnson vs. Nogueira is expected to take place on the main card. UFC on Fox 12’s main card will be available on Fox following the preliminary fights on Fox Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Former UFC welterweight “Rumble” made his highly anticipated Octagon return in the 205 pound weight class just under two weeks ago at UFC 172 where he battered Davis for three rounds to take a points win. The unexpected mauling propelled the 30-year old to No. 5 in the official UFC rankings.

With the decision, Johnson is now on a seven-fight win streak which includes victories over the likes of Jake Rosholt, Andrei Arlovski and Mike Kyle. His last loss came at the hands of Vitor Belfort at the end of his first stint in the UFC back in January 2012.

“Little Nog” is set to return to action after nearly seventeen months of dealing with multiple injuries. Nogueira was scheduled to face Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 161 but was unable to return in time for the fight. A match with Alexander Gustafsson was also rumoured to be in the making but the Brazilian was unable to take that fight also.

The 37-year old last fought at UFC 156 where he took a close decision victory over former light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. Nogueira’s win over Evans put the Pride legend to 4-2 in his UFC career.

So Johnson vs. Nogueira, who have you got LowKickers?

  • It's gonna be a longggg night for Lil Nog.. This is a very bad matchup for him.

    • dont worry he'll pull out within a week

      • @griffin I know right! Lol..

      • nice one griffin, niicceee

        • This is the guy that tried to feed carrots to a bus? I predict a starching on Rumble's behalf.

    • It'll be a good test for AJ's striking. Assuming Rogerio hasn't declined much.

      • And assuming even chooses to keep it on the feet. Don't see much reason for Rumble to.

    • Ya this looks like its going to be another one sided beating.

  • I don't know guys, I disagree – Nog is damn good on the ground and very good at grappling, not exactly the expertise of AJ. I hope AJ wins, this is a very good challenge for him and hopefully he can show that is he's a complete MMA fighter.

  • Good night, Lil Noggy….ZzzzzZzzzz

  • Oh so lil nog is still in the UFC? o.0

  • No. 5 vs…

I can live with the fight and think Lil Nog might even show well, but how does this fight make any sense in the rankings? More particularly, why give Rumble a fight with an opponent that lost to the guy Johnson just beat?

    • Lil nog lost to Davis years ago and he just beat rashad. On paper this is a perfect match however realistically rashad gave that fight to nog and he should have just retired. The guy gets injured every week and is slow as molasses. Rumble will KO him 1st rnd….but on paper the fight makes sense+ who else is there for him? Next 2 contenders are DC and Gus

  • If there is ever a sure thing,,, then damn this is one of them AJ will FUCK him up.. lol

  • Ok….I think AJ will take this one but people saying Lil Nog will get KOed or destroyed is just crazy…when did that ever happen…think he got KOed once in 26 fights…he will be game for sure.
