Official UFC Rankings Updated: Lightweight division gets a face lift

There were some pretty significant shifts in the rankings following this past Saturday's UFC event. Considering Chael Sonnen wasn't ranked to begin with in the Light-heavyweight division and Jon Jones was already the champion, neither fighter moved at all.

There was however a serious shake up in the Lightweight division. With Josh Thompson delivering Nate Diaz his first career knockout he shoots himself up 4 spots to #4 in the Lightweight rankings, whil Diaz dropped to #7.

While I agree with Thompson moving up I disagree with Diaz being ranked below fighters like Donald Cerrone and TJ Grant, especially when he just recently defeated Cerrone prior to his loss and has accomplished much more than Grant especially when considering he just went 5 rounds with the current Lightweight champion.

Some other notably significant shifts were Jim Miller dropping 4 spots to #8 while Pat Healy who was previously unranked breaks into the top 10 with a spot at #9. With his win over Cheick Kongo, Roy Nelson moves up to tie for 5th place with Alistair Overeem in the Heavyweight division rankings.

And in the womens Bantamweight division Sara McMann moves up two spots to #4 while Liz Carmouche, Alexis Davis, Germaine de Randamie and Sheila Gaff all drop 1 spot to #5, #6, #9 and #10 respectively.

Even though there maybe a possibility that someone may get pregnant due to 5 rounds of hump spooning, Chael should go down to welterweight & take the belt from GSP. I honestly think he can do it.

He struggles to make 185, he would never make 170

How and why is Pettis the # 2 LW in the UFC?

Well who do you think should be ranked above him? You think Gray Maynard, Donald Cerrone or TJ Grant are better than he is? Even Nate Diaz?

I think you're underestimating Pettis. When he finishes it's quick and vicious. He has 2 losses in his entire career. 1 loss in his last 8 fights against Guida, but the rest of the wins minus the Decision over Benson in WEC were all finishes.

the kid is an absolute beast and after already defeating Benson in WEC and stopping Cerrone who hasn't been finished in 3 years, I'd say his position is accurate and completely justified.

I totally agree... i would even put him above Gilbert for the simple fact Gil just got beat by the champ and Pettis beat Benson... I honestly think Pettis would give Gilbert serious PROBLEMS! Anyway, other than that i think most of the rankings are correct...other than Mousasi being a lil low in the rankings and i don't agree with Werdum topping Alistair with 2 spots... that makes absolutely no sense to me and Munoz dropping from Nr.1 contender to Nr.7 just because he lost his last fight is ridiculous! Bisping got knocked the **** out too.. and not just that he lost 2 out of his last 4 fights yet he's at Nr.4... that clearly shows favoritism...

Why is Cruz still on the pound for pound list after being sidelined for such a long time? The only reason he hasn't lost is because he hasn't fought. After a year out of the cage you should be pulled from the pound for pound ranking. We are talking about who is the best now not 2 years ago.

He's on it cause he still got the belt and didn't loose a fight.. and he didn't retire he's injured... Saying "the only reason he hasn't lost is because he hasn't fought" is not a fact it's speculation! We won't know until he does, so all we can do is wait!

Since he hasn't fought for over a year can you still say he is definitely 1 of the 10 best fighters in the sport today?

Yes... cause it hasn't been proven he's not and he has looked unstoppable in his run... Also he is STILL the champ, you can't rank anyone higher than the champ, it just doesn't make sense.

I'm not sure how the rankings works but it seems like out for the roughly 80 media members who give their rankings, I know not all of them update theirs following every UFC (which they are supposed to) and if they don't update their rankings instead of not including that media member they just use their last rankings... only way I can make sense that Miller is still above Healy and similar cases

i hate bisping with a passion! i hate him more then any other fighter in the world, but c'mon, lets be real.. bisping deserves to be a lot higher then #4. its time to give bisping to silva. its time to give big country and bisping the title shots they deserve and WE ALL KNOW lesser and more undeserving fighters got title shots.
