Vitor Belfort Wants Weidman Or Silva Title Fight In Brazilian Soccer Stadium

vitor pVitor Belfort proved that he is still a surging force in the UFC at Fight Night 32, knocking Dan Henderson out in brutal fashion and extending his win/knockout streak to three. Having fought competitively since 1996, Belfort has truly been there and done it.

A former UFC Heavyweight tournament winner and LHW champ, ‘The Phenom’ is experiencing his second wind as a MMArtist. The common belief is that Belfort is next in line for a Middleweight title shot, and as Chris Weidman is defending his title against former boss Anderson Silva at UFC 168; the 185lb. Division may be tied at the top for the next year.

Belfort was on hand to talk with MMAMania.com regarding his potential title shot:

“This fight will be in a soccer stadium,” he said. “Whoever wins, I’m sure we can sell out Maracana or any other soccer stadium in Brazil. It would be really interesting.”

“I know the UFC will come up with the best idea. They are really focused in Brazil right now. Globo is offering great fights for the Brazilians. I just want to enjoy my training. I will train focused on both, and focused on working my abilities.”

The controversy surrounding the NSAC’s denial of Belfort’s license in Nevada has been well documented, and has a direct effect on the UFC MW title picture. Something that I’m sure UFC brass are not too happy about.

It seems as though the winner of Weidman vs. Silva II is almost certain to face Belfort next, but what if there is a controversial finish at UFC 168’s main event? Will Belfort sit out until Silva and Weidman battle it out in a third fight?

The Brazilian KO specialist is likely making his last roll of the dice in the UFC, at 36 years of age a loss now would probably set him back too far to recover from. Belfort has made it clear that he wants the next shot, and now he is already pre planning a venue. The question is how certain is Belfort’s title shot? In the UFC it is never a sure bet.
