UFC on FOX 10: Road To The Octagon Preview

A week from today, UFC on FOX 10 will air live from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The card features a pivotal lightweight showdown between former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson.

The two fighters yielded different results in their last trips to the Octagon, with Thomson coming off an emphatic UFC on Fox 7 victory where he became the first fighter to finish the always-tough Nate Diaz with strikes. Henderson, on the other hand, saw the title slip through his fingers at UFC 164 in August 2013 when he was submitted in the first round by archrival Anthony Pettis.

The main event is absolutely crucial for both fighters, as it has been billed as a potential title eliminator bout. But with Pettis on the sidelines for an undetermined amount of time after tearing his PCL, anything could happen in a stacked 155-pound arena. Only time will tell if either Henderson or Thomson will contend for the title their next time out, so all they can do right now is win and hope for the best.

UFC on FOX 10’s main card also features an exciting heavyweight tilt between Stipe Miocic and Gabriel Gonzaga, a lightweight showdown between Donald Cerrone and Adriano Martins, and a featherweight match-up where surging Jeremy Stephens will take on the gritty Darren Elkins. All told, the card has the potential to continue 2014’s early trend of exciting events.
