UFC Fight Night 40 Medical Suspensions: Johnny Eduardo Out 30 Days For Unsportsmanlike Conduct

UFC Fight Night 40 delivered a hard-hitting night of fights for fans last Saturday night (May 10, 2014) from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

With a total of seven jaw-shattering knockout finishes on the card, there were not surprisingly several medical suspensions that followed.

Today, MMA Junkie released the list put forth by the Ohio Athletic Commission. Leading the long list of fighters on medical suspension are main event participants Matt Brown and Erick Silva.

Brown finished Silva in the third round of the bout, which has already been dubbed one of if not the best fights of the year.

“The Immortal” picked up his seventh straight win, but he also absorbed a multitude of crushing body blows and received a minimum 45-day suspension for an injured right elbow. Silva will be on the sidelines for 60 days, and must first be medically cleared by a doctor regarding his jaw.

Other notable suspensions include Johnny Eduardo, who will be out of action for 30 days for throwing his mouthpiece into the crowd following a shocking first round knockout of previously No. 4-ranked bantamweight Eddie Wineland, who received a 60-day suspension for his TKO loss and stitches in his jaw and lip. Like Silva, he’ll first need to be cleared by a doctor for a potentially broken jaw.

Matt Brown: Suspended indefinitely pending doctor’s clearance on right elbow. Minimum suspension 45 days.?

Erick Silva: Suspended indefinitely pending doctor’s clearance on jaw. Minimum suspension 60 days.?

Lorenz Larkin: Suspended for 60 days (precautionary reasons).?

Erik Koch: Suspended for 30 days.?

Ruan Potts: Suspended for 60 days.?

Ed Herman: Suspended indefinitely pending doctor’s clearance on right hand. Minimum suspension 30 days.?

Eddie Wineland: Suspended indefinitely pending doctor’s clearance on jaw. Minimum suspension 60 days (TKO loss and stitches in lip area).?

Johnny Eduardo: Suspended 30 days for unsportsmanlike conduct (throwing his mouthpiece into the stands).?

Manny Gamburyan: Suspended indefinitely pending doctor’s clearance on right eye.?

Ben Wall: Suspended for 60 days (precautionary reasons).?

Anthony Lapsley: Suspended for 60 days (precautionary reasons).
