Matt Brown Taken To Hospital Following UFC on FOX 12 Loss; Even in Defeat, May Move Up In Rankings

Robbie Lawler vs. Matt Brown was an epic fight to say the least. The pair of welterweights, contenders, No. 2 and No. 5 in the division respectively, did battle this evening (July 26, 2014) in San Jose, California, with the duo going to war at UFC on FOX 12 in an effort to win a title shot against current champion Johny Hendricks.

Lawler vs. Brown was a fight that thrilled over five full rounds and one that, through its ebb and flow, offered opportunities to both combatants to end the match at any one given time.

Regarding the point, Matt Brown seemed to be well on his way to winning the decisive fifth round, in what seemed to be an even fight through four rounds (two rounds apiece), when he suddenly hit Lawler with a big right that caused “The Immortal” to pull his hand back in (obvious) pain. From that point on (perhaps two minutes into the fifth round), Brown clearly lost momentum and the remainder of the fight’s balance shifted towards the favor of Robbie Lawler.

As was ‘tweeted’ by MMA, post-fight, “The Immortal” was transported to the hospital at the end of the bout and was in need of medical attention.

With no details released, it’s would be a reasonable to assume that Brown was in need of medical attention for a broken right hand.
