Jon Jones Casts Doubt on Alex Pereira Showdown: “I Don’t Really Know What’s Going to Happen”

Jon Jones, Alex Pereira

Jon Jones does not sound too confident about locking horns with Alex Pereira on June 14.

Earlier this month, Pereira issued a fresh callout to ‘Bones,’ and the latter responded, asking the Brazilian to be careful of what he wishes for.

‘Poatan’ has not entered the octagon after reclaiming the light heavyweight strap at UFC 320 by dismantling Magomed Ankalaev in Round 1 of the title rematch. After becoming a two-time 205-pound champion, Pereira has teased a move up to heavyweight to fight for the third strap as he aims to be the first three-division champion. Jones, on the other hand, vacated his heavyweight championship last year after dodging Tom Aspinall for months.

Coming to the UFC White House card, with both fighters having their crosshairs on, is expected to feature numerous title bouts.

Dana White, who was previously enraged by Jones’ unreliability and his not wanting to unify the titles with Tom Aspinall, opined earlier this month that he’s interested in Jones vs. Pereira. However, White doesn’t know if he can count on Jones.

The UFC started matchmaking for the White House card right after UFC 324 and plans to wrap up the fighter lineup by the second week of February. And now Jon Jones says he is not too sure if he will face the Brazilian knockout artist on June 14.

Jon Jones is ready, but unsure if he will return to the octagon

In an interview with The Schmo, Jon Jones confessed that he’s not too sure if he will face ‘Poatan.’ However, he is doing what it takes to be ready and in shape to fight at the White House.

“I don’t really know what’s going to happen. I take it one day at a time, some things are just out of my control… I feel blessed, whether I fight again or not, I feel wonderful.”

On the other hand, Alex Pereira’s recent training clips suggest that he’s ready to move up to 265 pounds.

That being said, there are also rumors that UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, who’s recovering from a serious eye injury, might be stripped or asked to vacate, as his return might take much longer than expected, which will stall the division.

If Aspinall vacates, ‘Bones’ and ‘Poatan’ can fight on the South Lawn of the White House for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
