Conor McGregor Wins The Bet With Dana White, Fight Night 46 An Instant Sellout

UFC featherweight Conor McGregor recently made a bet with Dana White that Fight Night 46 tickets would sell out faster than any event in the promotion’s history, and the stakes were apparently a title shot. The brash Irish phenom has made no bones about bigging himself up while in the limelight, but could he be quite literally talking himself in to a title shot?

The Dublin based event was originally set to feature McGregor and Cole Miller’s beef-settling featherweight scrap, but things got switched up when Diego Brandao stepped in for Miller, as the ATT product was sidelined with a poorly thumb. To quote McGregor:

“I want the whole of Irish MMA to capitalize on this. I want an entire generation to follow me. But I’m still quite young and I’m only getting started. This means everything to me. I’m not here to make up the numbers. This is the first UFC Fight Night to go on FOX. FOX TV in America want this fight because they know what it means. This will be the fastest selling show in UFC history. We’ve got terrestrial TV in Ireland to show this fight as well. I am shooting right to the top. I texted Dana and bet him a title shot that this is the fastest selling event in UFC history.”

That was a few days ago now, the tickets went on sale for the Fight Night 46 show today, and were sold out completely and almost instantly. The hype behind McGregor worldwide has been quite the spectacle, but is seconded to the support he will receive from his home fans. So, will Dana White be making good on his side of the bet?

‘The Notorious’ still has a very stiff challenge in the form of Brandao, but it seems McGregor’s full potential as a fighter is yet to be reached. Brimming with confidence, an animal in the gym, a trash-talking king and knocking on the door of super stardom in the UFC featherweight division; A far cry from the man who once admitted there was a time in his life that he couldn’t afford a suit.

I’m intrigued to see where the McGregor hype train goes next, but there is one thing I am sure about; if there are any Brandao fans in Dublin on July 19, you probably won’t be able to hear them cheer.
