Colby Covington Calls Out “Bottomfeeder” Nate Diaz

There were many storylines in play at last weekend’s (Sat., March 2, 2019) UFC 235 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

One of the biggest was that of the UFC welterweight title picture. Kamaru Usman beat Tyron Woodley for the title in the co-main event, but Colby Covington added another layer when he touched down in “Sin City.” The former interim champ called out Usman at his open workout. Then, he tracked down Dana White at his blackjack game.

Finally, Covington got into a public spat with Usman and his manager Ali Abdelaziz the day after ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ won. The video of the near-brawl was seen around the MMA world, and the Palms casino decided to ban Covington for life. He’s been working overtime playing the heel for quite some time and it’s finally working. “Chaos” has been granted the next title shot at Usman’s newly-acquired gold. He’s picked up quite the list of haters as well.

One of the most high-profile ones is apparently Nate Diaz. Covington revealed on this week’s episode of ‘Ariel Helwani‘s MMA Show’ via MMA Mania that Diaz flipped him off and yelled a classic “f*** you” at him at UFC 235:

“Our skill level is way apart from each other. He’s a bottomfeeder. It was funny because he walked by me and he said, ‘F*** you Colby.’ And he flipped me off when I was sitting front row and he walked by cageside. It’s just funny. Keep that energy, Nate. If you’re so tough, let’s see it inside the cage, bitch.”

We can’t blame Covington for trying to get a name fight he most likely feels would be easy money. Diaz has been out of action for over two years, however. He doesn’t seem like he’s coming back unless maybe to fight Conor McGregor. He was slated to fight interim title contender Dustin Poirier at last November’s UFC 230, but the fight didn’t take place when ‘The Diamond’ was hurt.

Diaz hasn’t attempted to get another fighter booked in the time since. UFC President Dana White routinely claims they’ve offered Diaz many fights only to be rebuffed at every turn.
