This past weekend’s (Sun. February 17, 2019) UFC on ESPN 1 main event ended in awkward fashion.

Francis Ngannou walked through former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in the night’s main event. However, there was a ton of controversy over the finish. Some believe Ngannou’s uppercut rocked the Mexican star, leading to the knockout. But others believe Velasquez’s knee gave out, causing him to fall to the canvas.

A Twitter user pointed out something very interesting recently. He suggested Velasquez’s knee gave out during open workouts prior to the event. He shared the following clip to support the theory, showing Velasquez’s knee seemingly giving out while hitting pads:

Velasquez’s coach, Javier Mendes, was asked about this during an appearance on MMA Junkie Radio. Mendes said that Velasquez didn’t tell him anything about injuring his knee during open workouts:

“No, he never said nothing to me about it if that happened,” Mendez said. “He didn’t say a word to me about that. No, nothing. So if that did happen, he didn’t tell me. And I would hope he would’ve told me. He didn’t tell me nothing.”
