Greg Jackson gives his support to Jon Jones
Posted on June 6, 2012, 12:20 AM by Mike SearsonGreg Jackson, coach for Jon “Bones” Jones, has formally pledged his support for the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion, who was recently arrested for DUI after crashing his Bentley into a utility pole in Binghamton, New York, in the early-morning hours of May 19.
Jones had the support of the UFC behind him including CEO Dana White, Malki Kawa (his manager) and one-time rival Rashad Evans. In spite of that there has been a degree of backlash against Jones, stemming from what could be labeled as hypocrisy. Jones once boasted that he would never be arrested for "something like DUI."
Jackson spoke up for Jones on HDNet’s InsideMMA: "Well, I think that he's trying to do the right thing here, and make sure that, you know, I'm gonna do the plea bargain thing and make sure that I don't get into this situation, ever again. As long as you make a mistake and learn from it, I hope people give him a lot of lattitude, because people make mistakes, and as long as he's trying to take those positive steps and do the right thing, I think we should all respect that and support him."
In a separate interview, Jackson responded to Rick Strom of TYT Sports on the subject of MMA fans accusing Jones of putting up a "clean-cut image" as an act. Jackson laughed and replied: "You can't put his fighting down so if you have to find something to put down, I guess his image would be the thing to do. Jon is one of the nicest, sweetest guys I've ever met. He's an awesome guy, an awesome human being. He takes care of me and the whole coaching staff here, really well. I don't know where they're getting that, so the only thing I can think is this: He's rolling through fighters, he's so young and so talented and they can't insult him there so they just go after his character."
Is this simply character-assassination, as Jackson states, or is the criticism of Jones a legitimate observation based on observed behavior?

You win weirdo you can have this shit, imma Deep East Oakland O.G. i ain't about go back & forth with you over a computer, that's sucka shit

Don't worry DLS i wont be counter acting with an account using your name i just don't have that kinda time on my hands.
Lmao, and you were crying over hacking lol. It was just a zero replacing the O XD
And yeah I had spare time last night to make an account, it took all of 5 minutes but I was laughing pretty hard for much longer than that Hahahaha. It still makes me laugh now so it was worth it.
Its not because you dont like Chael Sonnen, its because you obviously have a deep yearning for him but fight it by always typing the most idiotic ignorant backwash smack talk I have ever read. I was hoping you would have an epiphany after seeing your own name say what you really feel. Guess I was wrong.
Yeah right, the only thing you are OG of is ass play.
And all you do is talk trash over the internet anyway, whether you continue arguing with me or not (Which you will). So I guess you are sucka shit.
You got schooled kid (or really stupid old man), and if you do want to meet me in Vegas you will stand there....act like a normal guy and lose this whole shit talking persona you have. Because in the end of the day, the mask of anonymity allows us to be assholes to people without repercussions. And you dont want to lose that mask
Damn kids
LMAO
Think Jon Jones told Greg Jackson to go gain some fans?
**** Jackson
I get the feeling a lot of what Jones says is because he's being thrust into the spotlight by the UFC and told to act a certain way. A lot of their champions would never do the press conferences and such if it were up to them (GSP even said he hates it in an interview), but upholding the image of yourself and the company is part of the contract.
Greg defending Jones? Well that's the least surprising news I've heard today.
I said all sorts of dumb things when I was his age. This one time I said I wasn't ever going to drink again but then I got paid. This other time I said I wasn't going to put up with this chick no more and I didn't care how fine she was but she lowered her standards and wanted me back. Then this other time...well you get the idea.
Honestly this isn't just some minor mistake that you can just play of as "people make mistakes". Maybe next time Jones goes around waving a gun shooting randomly and just because he missed we can just write it of as "being human".
whoa whoa whoa, Were talking about John Jones here pal not Rampage Jackson. However that is a slippery slope you got there even for Rampage but the short answer for your question is YES. I would consider that "being human" because humans come in all shapes, sizes and forms, stupid being one of those forms. If your debating on whether or not it was responsible or "right" by societies norms is a different debate but even then he would be doing that as a human and we could go back to forms. man you got yourself in a pickle.
Its just lucky Jones is not going to jail...everyone deserves a chance.
Of course his coach is going to support him....Jones is the bread winner of camp Jackson.
Everyone makes mistakes, it's a part of life, nobody's perfect, perfection doesn't actually exist imo. The person i've lost a lot of respect for in all this is Greg Jackson. I mean, the guy is SO obviously just looking to protect his own interests while trying to look like he's doing the right thing. That fiasco with Condit and GSP, then Sanchez, and then with Jones and Evans. He always seems to stand by the fighter that he thinks is the next big thing, the guy has no loyalty whatsoever. He says all the right things yeah, but when it comes down to it he's just looking after his own ends. I used to like and respect Greg and Winklejohn a lot but this whole drama made it clear that this guy has no loyalty at all, he sticks with the best fighter who also happens to be the biggest earner, can't other people see this?! however you cut it, that's how it is!!!!.........
Wow you hate on Greg Jackson, you must be mainstream.
I simply cant stand how he talks to his fighters. It sounds like hes talking to 4 years olds. ie. " wow thats really great George, your doing really good George.. ok listen George...." saw him on MMA live the other day and changed the channel. If that stuff works for them, more power to him.
Jackson must be thnking in his mind that the law owes Jones a freebie after the whole purse snatcher incident. Its just to bad he didnt get caught picking up a hooker or turning all darth vader like and try to kill old Greg.
Maybe Jones thought the tree was a thief who stole a handbag from a old person :*( ! Now go get some fans JONES
I agree with what Greg is saying. And how does any fan including all of us on this site know Jon Jones enough personally to really say if he's fake or not. You take the word of guys like Rampage and Rashad who always say he's fake when they're promoting a fight.
