After Derrick Lewis KO, Waldo Cortes-Acosta Eye Quick Turnaround vs. Curtis Blaydes At UFC Mexico On Feb. 28: “I Want To Crack His Head”
Waldo Cortes-Acosta is clearly riding a wave of confidence following his recent run of performances.
Last Saturday, “Salsa Boy” secured a second-round TKO victory over former heavyweight title challenger Derrick Lewis on the main card of UFC 324 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With the victory, Cortes-Acosta extended his winning streak to three straight fights. The 34-year-old Dominican Republic native remained highly active last year, putting together an impressive 4-1 run inside the Octagon with dominant wins over Shamil Gaziev, Ante Delija, and Serghei Spivac.

His only blemish during that stretch came in a close unanimous decision loss to Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Shanghai last August.
Now, Waldo Cortes-Acosta is looking to carry over the momentum from his busy run in 2025 while targeting a higher-level test that could move him one step closer to a title opportunity.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta Pushes For Curtis Blaydes Fight At UFC Mexico On Feb. 28
During the UFC 324 post-fight press conference, Waldo Cortes-Acosta said he is eager to make a swift return to the Octagon at UFC Mexico on February 28 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, name-dropping former title challenger Curtis Blaydes as a potential opponent.
“I’ve asked for Curtis Blaydes before. Let’s see if he is up to fight me in Mexico,” Cortes-Acosta said. “I would like to fight in Mexico if God permits, and it would be an honor for me to represent Latin America in Mexico. It’s not very hard. It’s not a crazy big challenge.I’ve already been through bigger challenges in the last three fights. I want to fight him because he talks a lot of trash on social media and I don’t like people who talk like that, so I want to crack his head.
“Salsa Boy” added that, in addition to being open to a short-notice fight with someone like Blaydes, appearing on the UFC Mexico card holds special significance for him because of his family ties to the region.
“I want to fight in Mexico. Fighting in Mexico City has always called my attention. It’s something I want to do for me and for my family. I have four Mexican kids and my wife is Mexican, as well, so I want to give her the opportunity to take her there so she can see Mexico and get a win there.”
