Amru Magomedov TKOs Angel Alvarez After Destroying Lead Leg at PFL New York

Amru Magomedov

Usman Nurmagomedov’s training partner, Amru Magomedov, locked horns with Angel Alvarez earlier tonight at PFL New York.

From the opening bell, it was one-way traffic, with Magomedov chopping Alvarez’s lead leg while also piecing him up on the feet. He dropped Alvarez later in the round with non-stop low leg kicks.

The undefeated Russian fighter, who had found his range and rhythm early and was in a flow state, punished Alvarez every time the latter tried to get in the pocket and land something significant. The action was briefly halted in Round 1 after Magomedov accidentally landed a low blow on Alvarez.

When the bout resumed, every time the Cuban fighter closed the distance, he was punished with crushing kicks to the midsection and punishing leg kicks that left his lead leg badly swollen and made him immobile.

Round 2 also played similarly, with Magomedov punishing Alvarez’s lead leg with more kicks. Eventually, Alvarez collapsed, and instead of hunting for a submission, the Russian fighter secured a TKO victory with vicious ground-and-pound from full mount.

Official decision: Amru Magomedov defeated Angel Alvarez by TKO in Round 2 (4:28).
