UFC Fight Night 36 Prelims Results: Decisions Across The Board
The UFC Fight Night 36 preliminary card is in the books from Jaragua do Sul, Brazil and the preliminaries were a very busy night for the judges.
Opening the festivities was a featherweight scrap between Douglas Silva de Andrade and Zubaira Tukhugov and this was an entertaining, bloody battle. Tukhugov debuted impressively with diverse wrestling and striking, winning a unanimous decision over the very durable de Andrade.
Next up was Ildemar Alcantara and Albert Tumenov at 170, and this was another gritty battle. Tumenov was coated in his own blood by the end of round two and showed a lot of heart in the final round. The Brazilian takes home the decision.
Maximo Blanco and Felipe Arantes threw down at featherweight and produced an extremely exciting affair. Knockdowns, power bombs and a low blow were the skinny on this one, and Arantes took home the UD.
Cue the bantamweights, and Iuri Alcantara took on Wilson Reis in another three round tilt. The BJJ black belts put on a pretty slick grappling display, with Alcantara taking the split decision win.
Jesse Ronson and Francisco Trinaldo met at lightweight, and the result was another three round scrap. Ronson’s technical kickboxing may not be the most exciting, but he certainly utilized it well against the Brazilian Trinaldo. The judges somehow see it the other way.
Rodrigo Damm and Ivan Jorge now, and this was a close barn burner between the two lightweight competitors. It could have gone either way really, but Damm gets the unanimous 30-27 win. On to the final fight of the prelims, and it’s Cristiano Marcello vs. Joe Proctor.
The prelims drew to a close with one last decision; a (semi) hard fought unanimous victory for Joe Proctor. Let’s hope the main card delivers a little (a lot) more.
