UFC 174 Prelims Results: Women’s Bantamweights Steal The Show

UFC 174 flat

UFC 174 is well under way from The Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, and the prelims have provided a decent amount of action. Jason Saggo and Josh Shockley kicked off the action tonight at lightweight, in a battle between two great grapplers. After a very technical exchange, and a self-punch by Saggo, the Canadian overwhelmed Shockley on the ground to earn a first round TKO win.

Roland Delorme and Michinori Tanaka collide now at bantamweight, and the Japanese stand out made a point of dominating with movement and heavy grappling. Impressive octagon debut by Tanaka, as he takes the unanimous decision win. Over to the lightweight division now, as Kajan Johnson takes on Tae Hyun Bang.

The action was fast paced in round one, as Johnson was nearly finished with the left hook, but battled back and landed some big kicks on the Korean. The pace slowed in the second, although Johnson was rocked again and wobbling, and the third round was where the finish came. Bang caught the kick and threw a perfect right counter, and Johnson was out before he hit the mat.

Mike Easton and Yves Jabouin throw down at bantamweight next, and this was a muay thai clinic by the Canadian ‘Tiger”. Jabouin took the fight to Easton over three rounds, and earned a one-sided decision win. Women’s bantamweights took to the cage, and it was Valerie Letourneau against Elizabeth Phillips. What a crazy war! Letourneau looked to be hurt early on as her eye swole up like a melon, but she almost finished Phillips in the opening stanza with a head kick.

Letourneau owned round two with some great technical kick-boxing, and continued in to a very close final round. Letourneau ended up taking the split decision win, but it could have really gone either way. FOTN so far for me. Great heart by ‘Trouble’, as she battled through injury to get the win. Feature prelim bout now as Daniel Sarafian takes on Kiichi Kunimoto at welterweight.

This bout was all Kunimoto as he dominated the action, and sunk in a rear naked choke in the opening stanza. Stay tuned to LowKick.com for more UFC 174 coverage.
