UFC Fight Night 86 Preliminary Results: Zak Cummings Defeats Nicolas Dalby

UFC Fight Night 86

It was once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display today (Sunday, April 109th, 2016) will come in the form of UFC Fight Night 86. Headlining the card are Junior dos Santos and Ben Rothwell, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Nicolas Dalby (14-1-1) vs. Zak Cummings (19-4) closed the preliminary card on Fox Sports 1 in welterweight bout. Cummings pressed forward early and was the more active fighter. Cummings dropped him with a 1-2 punch in the first round and got on top in side control. Cummings went for a d’arce choke then went for a guillotine choke, but Dalby got out of it and got to his feet. In the second round, Dalby started to come alive. In the later rounds, Cummings continued to dominate the fight both on the feet and on the ground. After three rounds, Cummings picked up the decision win.

Mairbek Taisumov (25-5) and Damir Hadzovic (10-4) met in a lightweight bout. Taisumov lived up to the hype in this one. Taisumov was the quicker fighter and was getting in, landing, and getting out of harm’s way. In the middle of the first round, they started throwing bombs and had a wild exchange. Taisumov with an uppercut to drop him and walked away. The fight was stopped.

Ian Entwistle (9-3) and Alejandro Perez (17-6) met in a bantamweight bout. An odd fight to say the least. Entwistle went for a sweeping scissors leg submission right out of the gate. Perez got to his feet and blasted Entwistle. Entwistle complained to the referee that Perez was slippery. Entwistle went heel hook, but Perez was landing some big hammer fists. Perez rolled on top and was just landing huge shots from mount to finish the fight.

Filip Pejic (10-2-1) vs. Damian Stasiak (9-3) opened the Fox Sports 1 preliminary bouts in a bantamweight bout. This one did not last long. Stasiak took him down again and got mount in round one. He landed some big strikes then got his back and locked in the rear-naked choke for the win.

Robert Whiteford (12-4) vs. Lucas Martins (16-3) in a featherweight bout finished off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. Both guys had a feeling out process early. Both guys tried to pick up the pace in the second round and were exchanging in a decent fashion. The fans were booing heavily in this round as there was not a ton of action. Whiteford got a double-leg takedown with 25-seconds left in round 2, but Martins got right to his feet. In the third round, they continued to exchange as the fans were still annoyed at the lack of action in the fight. After three rounds, the judges gave Martins the win via split decision.

Jared Cannonier (8-1) and Cyril Asker (7-2) met in a heavyweight bout. This one did not last long. Asker shot in on a takedown and got it right away to begin the fight. However, things went downhill for him from there. Cannonier with a huge left hook that dropped Asker and finished him on the ground with strikes.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Bojan Velickovic (14-3) vs. Alessio Di Chirico (9-1) in welterweight bout. Both guys made their UFC debuts in this fight. Both guys were calm early and picking their shots. Not a ton of action in round one. In the second round, Velickovic was landing a left hook at will and started to move forward. As the round went on, Chirico was finding his range. Chirico was standing forward and just laying down right bombs. Velickovic took him down with 15-seconds left and Velickovic went for a kimura but the round ended before he could get the submission. In the third round, both guys had their moments and Chirico landed a late round takedown. Velickovic was awarded the decision victory.
