Rashad Evans: I Don’t Look At Chael Sonnen’s Drug Test As Him Being A Cheater

Former UFC middleweight and light-heavyweight title challenger Chael Sonnen shocked the world last week when he retired from professional MMA following a failed drug test.

While many have been quick to criticise the standout fighter Sonnen’s friend/co-analyst for Fox Sports Rashad Evans says he feels sorry for “The American Gangster”:

“I actually feel bad for Chael. I say that not only because he’s a good friend of mine, but I say it because a lot of these guys who were on that program, which was allowed by almost every commission, they’re kind of… I feel they’re getting a raw deal.

I say that because when they’re on the program it’s hard to just completely stop doing everything and there is not enough time for the body to re-bounce back to even get on a fair playing field, or whatever you want to call it.”

The former UFC light-heavyweight champion and TUF winner made his comments yesterday when he appeared on “The Karyn Bryant Podcast”. According to “Suga”, the failed drug test was a result of what Sonnen had to do, rather than him being a cheater.

“Maybe it was Chael’s eagerness to want to go out and fight, maybe he should of took a little longer break so his body was able to level off. But I don’t look at the failed drug test result as like him being a cheater. I feel it was more of the fact of what he was coming off and what he had to do to sustain his body.”
