Rafael dos Anjos Talks Conor McGregor Fight: It Won’t Be A Smart Decision

Rafael dos Anjos is fresh off a win over Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 17 and following the fight called out UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Prior to UFC on FOX 17, McGregor claimed that he would move up to lightweight and fight the winner of this lightweight title fight. Now, it’s time to put up or shut up.

When asked about it at the post-fight presser, dos Anjos explained that there are two big differences between the two fighters. He is a lightweight and McGregor is a featherweight. However, if McGregor still decides to make the weight jump, he’ll be waiting on him.

“Yeah, we are not even in the same division,” Dos Anjos said. “He’s a featherweight, and I’m a lightweight. But, he’s saying he wants to come to the lightweight division, if he comes I will be here.”

Dos Anjos also said that he is ready to defend his title as much as possible, and if that is against McGregor next then that is fine. He did make it clear that this is his division, and he will overcome McGregor when and if they fight.

“Yeah, since I won the fight against Pettis [at UFC 185], I had my MCL injury, and it took me maybe four months to get better,” he said. “And finally here I am defending my belt, and I didn’t have any injuries. I’m looking forward to coming back as soon as possible. Conor McGregor has said he wants to come to my division, and I think it will not be a smart decision for him. But if he wants to come I have to overcome him.”

McGregor is expected to return in April, and that is the gameplan for him and the UFC. With dos Anjos not being hurt in this fight, a potential bout between the two is very likely for that timeframe.
