Will Paddy Pimblett become UFC champion one day? Din Thomas doesn’t think so

MMA analyst Din Thomas has given his thoughts on the future of Paddy Pimblett in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

At UFC 324 last month, Paddy Pimblett went up against Justin Gaethje with the UFC interim lightweight championship on the line. While he put forward a spirited effort, ‘The Baddy’ wasn’t quite able to get the job done, and he was ultimately overwhelmed by the power and overall striking ability of ‘The Highlight’.

Paddy Pimblett is clearly very talented and there’s no way of getting around that. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to really utilize his strongest weapon, which is his grappling. Instead, he opted to stay on the feet and try to overwhelm Gaethje in that department until late in the fight, and by that point, he just didn’t have enough left in the tank.

In a recent podcast appearance, Din Thomas gave his thoughts on what could be next for Paddy Pimblett in terms of his championship ambition.

Din Thomas on Paddy Pimblett’s future

“I don’t see him beating any of them guys,” Thomas said. “I didn’t see him beating any of them guys before this fight, I don’t see him beating any of them guys after the fight, even though I was impressed by his determination to win and his durability. I was impressed with that. Again, his ceiling is his ceiling and he’s still going to be a fun guy. He’s still going to be a fun guy to watch fight.

“But you match him up and give him a lot of fun fights, he’s going to carry Liverpool on his back, man. He’s going to carry the U.K. on his back. And he’s still going to be a lot of fun. There’s a lot of fun matchups for him. Will he be UFC champion? Highly doubt that – unless I see something different. But it’s a discipline issue. He’s got to go back to the drawing board and figure those things out.”
