Movsar Evloev Weighs In on Arman Tsarukyan’s Potential Featherweight Move

Movsar Evloev, Arman Tsarukyan

Movsar Evloev does want Arman Tsarukyan to have his crosshairs on the UFC featherweight championship.

Tsarukyan is now the No. 2-ranked lightweight contender after Justin Gaethje won the interim title last month and moved into the top spot.

The Armenian recently expressed a desire to move down in weight and challenge current and two-time UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. ‘Ahalkalakets’ made it clear that if he doesn’t get to fight for the lightweight title next, he would like to compete for the featherweight strap instead, capture it, and then move back to 155 pounds after a few years.

Movsar Evloev Weighs In on Arman Tsarukyan’s featherweight ambitions

Undefeated top 145-pound contender Movsar Evloev recently commented on Arman Tsarukyan’s featherweight ambitions. Speaking in a friendly tone, the Russian opined that the featherweight belt is his and he doesn’t want anyone talking about it. Evloev also suggested ‘Ahalkalakets’ to fight Jean Silva, until the former captures the featherweight belt. He told Submission Radio:

“Better if he [Arman Tsarukyan] fights with Jean [Silva], until I get the title. We trained together with Arman. We’re friends. I don’t want to say anything against him, but the featherweight title is mine, and I don’t want to let anybody even talk about my title.”

Movsar Evloev will take on the No. 3-ranked Lerone Murphy at UFC London, and the winner of this clash between two undefeated contenders will most likely challenge Alexander Volkanovski later this year.

On the other hand, Tsarukyan, who was denied a title shot for multiple reasons, will now have to wait for the winner of the Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje title unification bout. If Topuria wins, he has no interest in fighting Tsarukyan, as fans already know.
However, if ‘The Highlight’ somehow manages to capture the undisputed UFC lightweight championship and decides not to retire on a high note, he could defend his title against Tsarukyan.

That said, ‘Ahalkalakets’ would likely have to wait several months before getting what he desires.
