Bellator 221 Results: Patricio Freire Stops Michael Chandler

bellator 221

Bellator 221 results are underway as the Viacom promotion holds this latest event on television for fight fans around the world to watch the show.

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, May 11, 2019) will come in the form of Bellator 221. Headlining the card are Michael Chandler and Patricio Freire, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Michael Chandler and Patricio Freire meet in the main event for the lightweight title. In round 1, Freire caught him with a right hook that dropped Chandler. Freire swarms on him from back mount and that’s a wrap. A questionable call on if it was an early stoppage. Freire is now a double champion – featherweight and lightweight.

Douglas Lima and Michael Page meet in the co-main event in a welterweight grand prix semifinal bout. In round 1, Lima took him down in the middle of the round and held him there but didn’t do much damage. MVP was able to hold his arms and prevent damage. In round 2, Lima blasted him with leg kick that dropped him and uppercut that knocked out Page cold!

Pat Curran vs. A.J. McKee is next in a featherweight bout. I missed the first round. In round 2, the majority of the round was lackluster until Curran took him down and got full guard where he would land some strikes but McKee was staying busy with his own strikes. That was the highlight of the round. Curran had a nasty cut on the top of his head and was bleeding. In round 3, AJ took him down and controlled him for the majority of the round with strikes. Curran was just outmatched. AJ got the decision win.

Jake Hager vs. T.J. Jones is next in a heavyweight bout. In round 1, Hager clinched and then took him down right away. Hager with the arm-triangle choke and held it a bit long after TJ had tapped out.

Opening the main card on DAZN is James Bennett vs Tywan Claxton in a featherweight bout. In round 1, Claxton took him down and was just smashing his face in with strikes from top position. James tried to get up but was slammed down and started to bleed from his forehead. Complete control by Claxton. In round 2, Claxton with a jumping flying knee then took him down and continued the beatdown with strikes. James had nothing to offer on the ground but was tough as he took shots. In round 3, Claxton took him down and James threatened a guillotine choke but Claxton got out. Claxton blasted him with strikes for the win.
