Official UFC Rankings are a “Joke” According to Michael Venom Page

Michael Venom Page Targets Middleweight Breakthrough in UFC 319 Showdown

The official UFC rankings have caused their fair share of controversies over the years, and many fighters believe the system needs to be changed.

The UFC rankings are decided by a panel of selected media members who vote on the top 15 fighters in each weight class and also the pound-for-pound rankings.

Fighters and fans have both criticised this method of ranking, and believe that there needs to be an updated method that is more consistent.

Michael Venom Page calls the UFC rankings a “joke”

Michael Venom Page (MVP) is back at UFC 319, when he makes his return to the middleweight division to take on top contender Jared Cannonier.

MVP was recently interviewed by former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson on his YouTube channel ‘Mighty‘.

The topic of rankings was brought up, and MVP gave his opinion on the current system.

“The rankings? They’re a joke. They’ve been a joke forever. They’re not based purely on skill or merit; they’re often about timing, politics, and marketability. That’s why I don’t chase numbers on paper. I chase the fights that elevate me and that get the crowd standing. Because when you have the fans behind you, the rankings don’t decide your future — the people do.” He said.

MVP’s desire for exciting fights finds him back at middleweight

MVP has expressed his desire to have the most exciting fights possible, which is why he has recently made appearances at 185 pounds.

He started by beating fan favourite Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov by unanimous decision back in February.

MVP still prefers the matchups at middleweight as he takes on Cannonier. He believes that at this stage in his career, the most important thing for him is to put on exciting performances for the fans.

While MVP does not have to cut much weight to make 185 pounds, his dynamic movement and striking make him a problem in the division, and so far he has had great success.
