Max Holloway Calls Out Ariel Helwani in Heated X Exchange: “Stop trying to start sh*t you are 43 years old, dude”
Max Holloway addressed Ariel Helwani after feeling that an unnecessary controversy was being created. For context, Holloway, who is the current UFC BMF titleholder, said in a recent video on his YouTube channel that the BMF belt was a “laughing stock before.
“The BMF belt, to me, personally, represents just a bad mothers**ker, you know. Blessed man forever. Only a very few get to fight for this belt. The belt was a laughing stock, I feel like, before. And then all of a sudden, I got it, and everyone wants to fight for it now. It’s hilarious. It’s fun to me. Title, no title, I carry myself as a BMF in whatever fight it may be. So at the end of the day, having this title, getting this, and headlining pay-per-view cards is awesome. I’m loving it.”

Holloway got his hands on the BMF title after knocking out Justin Gaethje cold at UFC 300. Since then, he defended it against Dustin Poirier at UFC 318. This year at UFC 326, he will make the second defense of his BMF strap opposite Charles Oliveira in a rematch.
On The Ariel Helwani Show, Helwani informed the first BMF titleholder in UFC history, Jorge Masvidal, about Max Holloway’s recent comments and asked ‘Gamebred’ for his reaction to the Hawaiian labeling the BMF belt a “laughing stock.” In response, the 41-year-old made sure to show respect to ‘Blessed’ and floated the idea of a future matchup. He added:
“I love Max as a fighter — that’s his opinion. I think he’s one of the best to ever do it. He’s a dog when he goes in there, but whether it had been me or Nate fighting Max, it wasn’t going to be his best night either. I would love to fight Max just as a stylistic matchup. I think he’s a great stand-up fighter — I just think I’m better. I don’t know what he means by ‘laughing stock.’”
Helwani posted Masvidal’s reply on X, sharing the comments and captioning the post:
“Jorge Masvidal responds to Max Holloway calling the BMF belt a ‘laughing stock’ before he held it.”
Max Holloway claps back at Ariel Helwani
Max Holloway was quick to fire back at Ariel Helwani, saying that his comments has been misinterpreted. He also added that Helwani was among those who previously called the BMF title a ‘laughing stock.’ ‘Blessed’ posted on X:
“I meant people was saying it was a ‘laughing stock’ and one of them people was you @arielhelwani. Stop trying to start sh*t you are 43 years old, dude.”
