Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to bring another high-profile fighter to Eagle FC.

The former UFC lightweight champion recently signed long-time contender Kevin Lee to his MMA promotion which will debut in the U.S. in January 2022.

‘Motown Phenom’ will compete in the newly formed 165lb division which he and lots of other prominent names in MMA have been calling for over the last few years.

During a recent interview with ESPN, Nurmagomedov claimed that Poirier is someone who could benefit from competing in Eagle FC’s 165lb division. ‘The Diamond’ recently suffered a third-round submission defeat when he squared off against Charles Oliveira this past weekend.

“Just call me, I’m gonna sign Dustin Poirier in Eagle FC, 165,” he told ESPN. “Dustin, he can fight in 170, it’s a little hard to 155 of course he always [makes it], but it’s going to be good for him, 165.

“If UFC release him, Khabib is here always with Eagle FC, we’re gonna sign him and make some charity stuff together. Let’s go Dustin, just call me, you know my manager’s number.” (Transcribed by Mirror Fighting)

Dustin Poirier Seems Unlikely To Sign With Khabib Nurmagomedov

Despite failing to become the undisputed lightweight champion once again at UFC 269, Poirier remains one of the biggest stars on the roster and it seems very unlikely that he will be released anytime soon.

The man himself has announced his intention to compete at welterweight moving forward and is already trying to set up a fight with Nate Diaz.

“When I’ve been laying down and thinking about fights, nothing gets me excited right now,” Poirier said on The MMA Hour earlier this week. “Unless Nate Diaz wants to fight, if he wants to fight that gets me excited. That would be great, I don’t know what plans they have with the UFC with negotiations, I’m healthy and we’ll see what happens. I just want to be excited to fight again.

Poirier and Diaz then exchanged a couple of messages on social media before agreeing to fight in January. As of right now, it is unclear if this is a match-up that the UFC would want to make in the new year.
