Joaquin Buckley Reveals Original Motivation for Fighting in the UFC: It’s Purely Financial

UFC welterweight Joaquin Buckley has revealed what his inital motivation was behind competing in mixed martial arts.

As we know, Joaquin Buckley is one of the top stars at 170 pounds. While there are plenty of other big names competing in the division, he’s certainly one of the loudest – and when he gets in that cage, he has the kind of all-action style that will always capture the attention of the masses.

While he did lose to Kamaru Usman, Joaquin Buckley is still a hot commodity at welterweight. He has the potential to knock just about anyone out if he gets his hands on them, and regardless of what happens for him in 2026, he already has an absolutely unbelievable list of highlights, including one of the greatest knockouts in UFC history.

In a recent interview, Joaquin Buckley opened up about the original motivation behind him getting involved in the sport.

Joaquin Buckley discusses fighting motivation

“My pure motivation on why I became a fighter is strictly financial, right, was to change my life to change you know, the outcome of what my grandmother is dealing with, and like I told you before, you know I have my auntie that’s  aking care of her 24/7 you know.

“To be honest with you right, I can’t afford a full person to come in and nurse for my grandmother right now you know and it takes a lot of money to do that. So, with that being said, you know, I’m the type of person that is motivated. If you put some money on the line, I’m going to get it.”
