After a disappointing loss to rival Conor McGregor at last September’s UFC 178, former UFC featherweight Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier decided to return to his old home of 155 pounds, and so far, it’s been paying off in spades.

Poirier got the ball rolling with a first round stoppage of Carlos Diego Ferreira at April’s UFC Fight Night 63, and he made a quick turnaround to fight in his home state of Louisiana at last night’s UFC Fight Night 68. Battling Yancy Medeiros on the main card in front of a wild crowd, Poirier put on an amazing show by nailing the super-tough lightweight with some hooks that dropped him.

He followed with a takedown and took the Hawaiian fighter’s back to look for a choke, but Medeiros returned to his feet only to absorb more strikes. Poirier hit him with a vicious liver kick that stunned him, unloading a flurry of shots that forced the ref to stop the action for a second straight win at lightweight.

All of the sudden, ‘The Diamond’ looks rejuvenated and set to be a contender at 155 pounds. Watch the full fight video highlights of his latest decisive victory above.
