The co-main event of UFC Fight Night 89 featured a welterweight clash between former title challengers Donald Cerrone (30-7, 1 NC) and Patrick Cote (23-10).

“Cowboy” had his way the entire fight and capped off his performance with an emphatic finish.

Cote looked for the overhand, but Cerrone ducked under and secured a takedown. “”The Predator” looked for an omoplata, but “Cowboy” got out of danger and the fight resumed standing. Another perfectly timed takedown was completed by Cerrone. “Cowboy” took the back of Cote and locked in a body triangle. Cote went for a kimura, but once again Cerrone thwarted the attempt as the first round closed out.

A punch to the body found the mark for Cerrone and he followed it up with an inside leg kick. “Cowboy” kept attacking the leg of his opponent with kicks. A high kick from Cerrone was blocked and he was hit with an uppercut. A hook from “Cowboy” sent “The Predator” stumbling back a bit. Cote was dropped with a hook and Cerrone landed some punches on the ground. He allowed his opponent to stand back up. Cerrone fired away at Cote in the closing seconds of the second round.

As soon as the final round began, Cerrone landed a leg kick. A left hand dropped Cote for a second time. “The Predator” was stunned with another left hook and dropped with two right hands before Cerrone finished it off with vicious ground and pound.
