Daniel Cormier Is Looking In Fantastic Shape Ahead Of UFC 170

Former Strikeforce Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier is set to return at UFC 170 to face Rashad Evans in a Light-Heavyweight bout. DC had once tried such a brutal weight cut in the past and suffered health complications for his efforts. Going from 240+ to 205 on fight night is never going to be easy, although Cormier did look smaller in his October outing against Roy Nelson.

The All American wrestling ace had managed to shed 20lbs. between his UFC debut win against Frank Mir and follow up bout with ‘Big Country’ and we really haven’t heard much out of ‘DC’ since. Well, Cormier posted a picture to twitter recently, check out the ‘abs over flab’ look that the former Heavyweight is rocking now:

Many people questioned Cormier’s ability to make 205lbs. including LHW kingpin Jon Jones. DC and ‘Bones’ have had a heated beef for a while now, and Cormier has repeatedly talked about his desire to compete for the title at 205. A win over ‘Suga’ at 170 could well punch DC’s ticket to a UFC title showdown with Jones.

One thing I’m interested in seeing is if Cormier has kept his power. He was very quick and nimble for a Heavyweight, so I’m sure that is amplified through the cut, but will he still have one punch knockout power? If so, Jones could be in genuine trouble in a bout with Cormier.

This could all be fluff talk if Evans takes care of business in February, but my money is on the undefeated Cormier making a statement in his Light-Heavyweight debut. He wants that shot at Jones, and ‘Suga’ might well feel the full force of a hungry (in all senses) Cormier at UFC 170.
