Ariel Helwani Reveals He Was Kicked Out Of UFC 199

As arguably the most recognizable and trusted face in mixed martial arts (MMA) media, Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com has obviously had his issues with the UFC and their broadcast partner FOX.

The longtime journalist was released from his position as a UFC on FOX Sports analyst earlier this year, and while an official reason was never given, Helwani said that he could’t help but feel a bit slighted by the way he was let go and the explanation he was given on his show, “The MMA Hour.”

Many were quick to speculate that it was due to a number of reasons, with the major rumor being Helwani had privy information to the announcement of the previously scheduled Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor rematch at July’s UFC 200. But it was just a rumor, and now speculation has shifted to the reason why Helwani was apparently not only kicked out of UFC 199 just before Michael Bisping knocked out Luke Rockhold to win the title in the main event, but also banned from the UFC for life:

One of the main theories, especially based on that series of tweets, was that Hewani broke the news that Brock Lesnar was returning to MMA at UFC 200 himself tonight, which was indeed later confirmed in a chilling promo. UFC President Dana White had denied the rumor on ESPN, signifying that he was obviously trying to keep it under wraps.

Regardless, Helwani’s credentials were apparently taken away and he was escorted out of The Forum by Zuffa security. The saga of Helwani vs. the UFC appears to be raging on, and it most likely won’t end tonight.
