Alexander Volkanovski Retains Title After Another Dominant Defeat of Diego Lopes – UFC 325 Highlights
Alexander Volkanovski delivered another dominant performance against Diego Lopes in the UFC 325 headliner on Saturday night.
While things got off to a fairly slow start in the first round, the pace quickly picked up in the second as Lopes looked to put pressure on the defending featherweight champion. During one exchange, Lopes ate a nasty uppercut from Volk, but quickly countered with a left that caused a cut under Volk’s right eye.
With time ticking down in the round, Volk looked to cinch in a guillotine during a late grappling exchange. Lopes slipped his head out of the hold and took Volkanovski’s back, riding him like a backpack through the end of the stanza.
Both fighters found some of their biggest moments in the third. Volkanovski got things started by cracking Lopes with back-to-back right hands — the second nearly taking the challenger off his feet. However, it was Lopes who would land the more impactful blow, landing a sneaky counter right that knocked Volk down to one knee.
It was another close round in the fourth, leading us to the fifth and final round. With the fight on the line, Lopes ramped up his aggression, but ultimately paid the price, ending up on the bottom of a grappling exchange and eating some solid ground shots from Volk as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
In the end, it would be ‘And Still’ as Volkanovski ran away with the decision and his featherweight title.
