UFC Fight Night 63 is set to go down tomorrow (April 4, 2015) from Fairfax, Virginia. The card is being headlined by a featherweight showdown between Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas. The co-main event is also an interesting matchup between two lightweights trying to break into the top 10 as “Raging” Al Iaquinta meets Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal.

Although these two are just now making waves in the division, Iaquinta has known about Masvidal for years. Speaking with MMAJunkie, the Serra-Longo product discussed “Gambred’s” past, noting that he had watched Masvidal on YouTube in street fights years ago:

“I watched those probably 10 years ago,” Iaquinta said. ” … He had some pretty good skills even back then – the boxing and his hands. I don’t know how trained he was or anything.”

Masvidal isn’t the only fighter whose career started on the streets. Former UFC fighter and now Bellator fighter Kimbo Slice is widely known for his brutal street fights which have been seen by millions on the internet.

Continuing on, Iaquinta noted his liking for how Masvidal came up, even calling “Gamebred” the real Kimbo Slice. The Long Island native also acknowledged that Masvidal was even hungry back then:

“I’ve been in my fair share of street fights,” Iaquinta said. “It’s pretty cool he was in there with Kimbo. He’s like the real Kimbo Slice. He’s actually made a career out of it and got to the top of the game.

“He was definitely young and hungry back then.”

This is an interesting assessment from Iaquinta. Which lightweight will continue their ride up the divisional rankings this weekend?
