Frankie Edgar: I'm going to push the pace at Jose Aldo

Heading into his Featherweight title bout with Jose Aldo at UFC 156, former Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar expects a full-on war with the famed Brazilian striker. However, that's not going to change his mindset or gameplan in any way, because wars are what he's become quite accustomed to over the last few years. Edgar knows he will have to take the fight to Aldo, and he addressed this belief in an interview recent interview with MMAFightcorner:
“It’s tough to really put any chinks in any of these guys armor that are at this high level now. I just think I’m going to have to push him and test his metal. I think that’s what I do well, I push the pace and that’s what I’m going to have to do in this fight for sure.”
Edgar is always a fighter who works at a frenetic pace in the Octagon. Some may argue that his recent decision losses to current 155 lb. champion Ben Henderson would suggest that Edgar needs to do a bit more than leave in the hands of the judges. With his statement of wanting to push the pace at Aldo aggressively, it seems Edgar is starting to realize this, at least to some degree. And there should be no reason not to do just that for Aldo, because Edgar truly is a well-rounded fighter with excellent wrestling, boxing, and ground skills, namely submission defense. Edgar thinks that these coupled with his vast experience in big fights will help him prevail here:
“I’m going to do it all. I don’t like to go in there saying I’m going to do one thing. I’m a mixed martial artist and I feel I’m well rounded enough to take the fight wherever it needs to be. I think I can stand with pretty much anybody, I think I can wrestle with anybody and I feel I can compete on the floor with jiu jitsu with anybody. He’s definitely a tall task in an opponent, but I just think fighting guys at the caliber fights I’ve had throughout the years has only got me better and I think Jose will do that as well.”
Edgar vs. Aldo is a much-discussed bout that should provide some excellent excitement to the stacked UFC 156 card. It will be very difficult for Edgar to take a decision from a hunter like Aldo. Truly both fighters' mettle will be tested here, who do you think will emerge victorious?

Let's hope so- don't want him to turn into Faber.
I know...you will jump around like a fucxing energyzer bunny until BOOM....your looking up at the lights in the arena.
Or he will take Aldo down repeatedly, tire him out, and finish him in the late rounds or win a decision. This isn't Chad Mendes we're talking about.
I'm not sure Aldo has been tested in his career as much as Frankie has been. I see Edgar taking this fight pretty convincingly.
Ditto. Aldo is a machine but Edgar is hard to finish and may push Aldo into deep water and then watch him drown. Too bad for Edgar it wasn't a five rounder. He'll have to really push it to Frenetic on the "Guida Pace Scale" (GPS).
It's a title fight. It is 5 rounds. What fight were you talking about?
Lo edgar you're a nice guy but good luck talking your way to a rematch after Aldo knocks you the **** out. In better news, you can probably make 135 if you want Barao to kick your ass too.
You know Aldo will be looking to throw some heavy leg kicks to slow down Frankie.
I still have Frankie coming out victorious.
Edgar pushes the pace ...Aldo knocks him out.
The way to fight Aldo is to make him come to you if you come at him his leg kicks will slow you down and his excellent counter striking will knock you out .
You only have to look at how other pace or pressure fighters have fared against him to see it doesn't work.
Dominic Cruz 's style is the right approach .
Right. Because Cruz doesn't push the pace at all.
Cruz is one of the best counter striker's out there just look at the Faber fight .
Frankie Edgar: I'm going to push the pace at Jose Aldo....
...........and then catch a knee to the face. Fight over.
Wow, here come the Edgar nut-hugging train, giving the champ no respect.
Aldo could very well do what many LWs failed to do and that is finish Edgar. But failing a finish in the first couple of rounds Edgar outclasses him as Aldo tires and probably stops Aldo in the later rounds.
Aldo Edgar, GSP Condit. two best fights in the history of MMA.
