Anderson Silva is prepared to fight Georges St-Pierre at a catchweight, according to the Brazilian's manager Jorge Guimaraes.

Doubts have recently surfaced over a potential superfight between Silva and St-Pierre, with welterweight champion St-Pierre expressing doubts over the size difference between the two men. Silva is the current middleweight king, and he has twice stepped up to light-heavyweight for easy victories over James Irvin and Forrest Griffin.

St-Pierre insists he is not afraid of Silva, but claims he would need a serious amount of time to prepare his body for the leap to 185lbs.

However, Silva's manager Guimaraes revealed there is no need for GSP to make the full step up, revealing The Spider would happily weigh in at a catchweight of around 178lbs, knowing that he would load the weight back on during the 24 hours prior to the fight.

"Anderson has proven he's the best fighter and he handles it quite good. It's a complicated fight for GSP… it's a pretty bad fight for him", Guimaraes told Tatame.

"Anderson has this biotype, he loses weight easily, he can make any weight, so I believe a catchweight [bout] would be perfect for GSP, and Anderson wouldn't have problems with that.

"Who'd have a problem would be GSP, because Anderson can lose that weight easily and, at the day of the fight, he'd be on his usual weight, so I believe it's complicated for Georges St-Pierre."

AS obviously wants this fight. It wouldn't surprise me if the reason was because some people think GSP can beat him and he wants it to be laid to rest. I don't think GSP has to do this fight to be respected but it would be fun to watch. I can see GSP winning by decision if he is able to take it down and frustrate AS but in all likelyhood AS will pop him within the 5 rounds and finish it. If there were no rounds I would say it is pretty much a guarantee that AS wins eventually.

I think a roundless fight would be a good idea for a fight like this to lay to rest who would end up victorious.

If I were Silva I rather take a fight with a guy smaller than me than have to go up and fight LHW's. Although, he has more to lose by fighting GSP cause he is expected to win.

IDK if I'd say he's expected to win. I'd bet if you took a poll it'd be pretty close to 50-50. and he's gone to 205 before, and people just knocked it saying he beat nobodies. Irvin was a bit of a wash but Griffin had just lost his title not to long before that. I think the reason he wants GSP is because so many people are still trying to rank him above Silva on the P4P list saying he's better when GSP still can't finish a fight and Silva doesn't finish ONLY when he doesn't try.

I honestly wouldn't bet on this fight. GSP is such a good ground fighter that I can see him getting a decision there. AS I don't think has good enough submissions to get GSP in one but I might be wrong. On the feet GSP stands negative 100% chance of winning. There is just no way GSP can beat Silva on the feet. It comes down to who's domain the fight happens in. I would definitely pick Anderson in the picks but I wouldn't put money down.

he is 3 inches shorter and has a reach only 1.5 inches less than AS. He has a better reach than many in MW.

This is how I see it: GSP is welterweight king, Anderson is middleweight king, but in a open weight fight against each other and gsp would get slaughter.

GSP is obviously still going to need to bulk up for the catchweight. If he has to lose 8 pounds less, hes gonna want to gain at least 8 more pounds. If he bulks up to 190 -195, hes gonna wanna know how much he can cut before the weigh in. hes not gonna enter a 178 pound match at 185 when he can cut to 170 from 185
