Fedor Emelianenko will not be retiring from Mixed Martial Arts

Fedor Emelianenko suffered his second straight loss under the Strikeforce banner on Saturday night, at the hands of Antonio Silva. Speaking immediately after the fight was stopped due to a severe swelling under the right eye, the Russian hinted at retirement from the sport. However, when arrived today in Russia, Emelianenko had a different state of mind:

''I rushed to declare my retirement. I will fight more. Possibly I will return to the Heavyweight-Grand-Prix. I am capable of having a few more fights. I didn't make any analysis yet on why I lost. I need to recover, I can't see very well yet.''

Despite the MMA community being turned upside down over the talk of his possible retirement these past few days, it looks as if ''The Last Emperor'' believes he has one more run left in him. Fedor currently has two (and one optional) fights left on his current Strikeforce contract, and according to Scott Coker's recent interview to MMAFighting.com, will likely take on the loser of the April 9th clash between Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem.

Fedor's coach Vladimir Voronov also shared his thoughts:

''It's very nice that Fedor still has fighting spirit, he is ready to rip everyone apart right now. Yes, his eye is swollen, but it will heal. Most importantly for him is not to have any psychological pressure. After this, he will train with triple effort.''

So with the Russian Legend in high spirits, don't write him off just yet. It looks like there's still more to come from "The Last Emperor".

IMAO, IF Alistair win with Werdu, he'll lose to BigFoot, if Fabricio beats Reem, he'll win with Antonio.

On the other side, i'll bet for Russian.

Omg Fedor was clearly winning both rounds! Why doctor stop the fight?? Atleast he clearly has a good chin even though noone normally gets KO'd by GNP

He only lost because a black cat crossed his path on the way to the ring!!

I want to see what he can do at that size with some serious strategies. Strategy is part of the main reasons he lost the last 2 fight and not age, or "time"or "rust"or size or because it was the wrong day of the week or because pluto was in retrogade or any of the other stupid excuses.

I like to hear this. I do hope though, that this means he will change the way he trains. If he does not then he should just retire. I also think that he should only fight the loser of Werdum V Overeem if it is Werdum. If Overeem loses then it is basically a title fight between two guys who just lost. If Overeem loses I think he should lay low until the tourni is over and fight the winner of the tourni. During that time, Fedor can fight two or three times against good opponents and if he wins he can fight the winner of Overeen V Touni Winner.

yeah he should work on his ground game and brush up his BJJ. He's saying now that he wants to go train in Holland but they specialise in striking. I see submissions and ground control as his weakpoint right now.

    @IChokePeople :

Every fight in the tournament with title-holder participation is a title fight, so if Overeem loses to Werdum, then Werdum is the new Strikeforce HW champion. Fedor vs Overeem would be great if Overeem loses and it would not be for a title... maybe for a shot at the title against the tournament winner.

The GP Title and the SF HW Title are separate entities. If Overeem loses to Werdum he retains the SF Title unless the winner of the GP beats him after. The way I see it, if Fedor fights Overeem before either climbing the ranks or Overeem loses the title, it just isn't a fight that makes sense to me. If you have another opinion that is cool but that's mine.

Not just his BJJ he got picked apart in his striking too go back and watch he was backing up and getting hit the whole fight.... and he needs to change camps and find a nutritionist that can get him to 205 he would be a force then but the HW are to big/strong for him now...

IMO fedor was and always has been top in class for ground, striking, and submissions/sambo. To me though in his last three fights proved that he needs to change certain things about his lifestyle and traing to renew his legacy.

First is new partners for training thats are the same size and power as guys like Brock, Overeem, Bigfoot. For example Look at the Rashad Vrs. Rampage fight Carwin trained with Rashad all throught his camp just leaning on him to get Silva accustomed to the extra power from Rampage, and look at the results Rashad layed and prayed the whole fight Jjkjk, rashad was able to match strength with a guy that was know for his brute power as his main atribute.

Secondly and most importantly Motivation Fedor needs to convince himself that being top in heavywieght , or 205 IS his immediate and long term goals. It seems that the version of fedor that fought in the pride touneys was a higher level of motivation by becoming succesfull and leaving his name, whereas now things are different and all his prescious motivation is gone.

I really hope to see fedor back and very much stronger so he can defeat the loser of Werdum and Alistar. Thanks for reading, and have a nice day.

I don't see a problem with his training as much. In the fight against Silva he should have been watching for that takedown. His ground game isn't bad. It's just hard when a guy that heavy is sitting on top of you. People are a lot smarter nowadays and no one will be suckered into standing with Fedor anymore.

@overhand. I think his ground technique is fine. What he really needs is top calibre training partners. The only think I see that he could tighten up is his boxing and I am not talking about his casting punch. He has always had loose boxing. If you watch him in the Silvia fight for example, he looks like one of those old time boxers from the turn of the last century. He used to get away with it because his sense of distance and his timing were just phenomenal. Starting in the Arlovski fight you could (in hindsight) see his sense of distance diminishing and it became really obvious in the Brett Rogers fight when he kept throwing that left hook from out of range. Those fights also showed that his timing is still great. I think working on his striking in Holland would be a good move. He also needs to work with a big, dominant wrestler like Shane Carwin.

Bigfoot is bigger with skill. Of course it's not JUST size. He was way bigger than Fedor plus had the skill to hold his mount position along with transition to the back everytime Fedor tried to buck. Also Bigfoot was not getting the better exchanges on the feet which is why he chose to take him down immediately at the beginning of the round.

Pretty sure he would choose to take him down because he was getting tired in the standup. For all the excuses about bigfoot being bigger noone (aside from the fight observers) seems to realize that it wasn't a good idea to slug it out with bigfoot.

if you're a way bigger guy ofcourse GnP is preferable to chasing a rabbit around the ring.

i wonder whether fedor decided this or his management???? fedor is a great fighter but his heart doesnt seem to be in it.... werdum made a great point and i think fedor should go train at greg jacksons camp... has got nothing to lose by doing it... also i know someone personally who is under their management and lets just say he didnt have nice words to say about them... i think he should lose that management..... they dont deserve the fighters they manage

I don't think the problem is with his management. Looking back 2 years, by applying unbiased common sense and looking at the facts, my personal opinion, that his management did what they had to do. They made fights relevant at the time of the fights with relevant opponents. For example, 2008 - Tim Silvia, ranked 5 by Sherdog. Silvia was relevant opponent at that time. The UFC top HW were Couture, Big Nog, Mir and Gonzaga (JDS, Cain and Brock were not known at that time). In January 2009, Arlovski was ranked 3 when he fought Fedor with 6 winning streak. Opposition in the UFC were Brock and Mir, possibly Cain, Shane and JDS, but they all were ranked lower than Arlovki by Sherdog. In Aug 2009, Fedor was going to fight with Barnett, ranked 2 by Sherdog, but fight never happened and it was not M-1's fault. So, his M-1 management did not select easy opponents, they selected high ranked fighters outside the UFC. After that, in 2010 it was down the hill, untill 2011 HW GP. Maybe, Fedor should have joined the UFC, maybe not, but his management did everything right.

It was Fedor's training camp and himself that needed to adjust to new movements. They like to train old way without applying new techniques and methods. Fedor told that he had not changed his methods and sparring partners. Vadim Finkelstein told once, that he actually had sent octagon to Fedor's camp, but whether it was used or not is a different story. Fedor and his camp need to adjust to the new bread of HW, big, heavy and skilled. Bring something new to his strategy since everybody already studies his game.

I don't think his heart is the problem. In Al's words, he fought like a lion. The stand up was all guns blazing and he fought being stopped in the second way harder than most would, but yeah I believe his team, his management haven't done him any favours. Too many Yes Men and little focus on evolution. Back in Pride Fedor trained his kickboxing very hard so that he could beat Cro Cop at his own game, they put Crocop against his old boy Magomedov, and Fedor was there in his corner absorbing everything like a sponge. Now he doesn't prepare specifically for any fighter. The grace of God will see me through n all that. And yeah he needs a new gym with good honest input to tidy up his stand up and bring back his explosive escapes. Even Silva wouldn't have held him down for long in the Pride days.

Fedor showed some mad heart in that Silva fight. Let that be a lesson to his future opponents: you want to beat him, get the doctors to stop it or KO his ass. Silva couldn't KO him. Rogers couldn't KO him.

I admire Fedor more for not retiring. The guy has proven his worth to the MMA scene, and now he can focus on fighting for the same reasons that got him here in the first place.

This is a sport, and there are very few who do it with as much passion as this guy. Is he a top 5, not likely, is he a legend, of course.

There is a word being put out by Rashad Evans, who says he knows someone close to Fedor's camp, that Fedor was mentally gone before the fight even started because his priest wasn't there.

Apparently, Fedor always has his priest before the start of his fights. I assume to conduct a blessing and prayer session. Fedor is a super religious guy.

    Nooo, people!!!!!!

I know Fedor is lika god to many of you, but i have bad news!!!! He is as human as the rest of us, and you need to face the fact that his days @ the top of the mountain is OVER!!!!!

Can he win fights if he comes back, sure he can.

But he won't dominate as he did before and lets get this clear.

The guy is a legend, but he won't beat the best guys out there.

They are too well-rounded, conditioned, smart and with real good camps behind them....

Most talk shit about M1 the whole time, without holding HIM accountable for HIS actions the way you do with other fighters.

Fedor has chosen M1 to represent him, and yes he owns part of the company too. Now with someboydy who MANAGES YOU, you hold them accountable for the decisions that they make FOR HIM.

And IF Fedor didn't LIKE THE WAY M1 has managed HIM, then HE would have TERMINATED his contract with HIM for NOT acting in the BEST INTEREST of Fedor. And he hasn't, has he???!

Therefore the conclusion is pretty obvious that Fedor IS SATISFIED with the M1 management, even if his fans aren't.....

That means that the decisions or lack thereof hasbeen ok'd by him, because HE is ULTMATELY RESPONSIBLE for the decisions that they make for him, If not then he would have fired them.

Look, he is a part -owner of M1 and can make money from M1, even if he's fighting for them and choose to have somebody better represent him.

So face the fact, i respect the guy immensely but i resent the fact that many of you can't be honest with yourselves and hold the guy to accountable of any responsibility. You are basically declaring him unfit to take care of any kind of responsibility for HIS OWN FREAKING CAREER!!!!

Come on, he is a grown ass man for god sakes....

M1's decisions are approved by Fedor, and thats a fact.

That includes the lack of # of fights, the lack of quality opponents and his inability to implement new techniques, nutrition, strategy and camps with new training partners.

Now, one thing more. Fedor has always conducted himself with very well, respectful towards his opponents, no trashtalking and i have always liked that.

But in that humility(to me at least) that he shows outwards, he has shown some arrogance in the way that he has conducted his preparations for his camps. To believe that you don't have to evolve as a fighter is huge error, and it displays a ton of arrogance actually...

That he truly believes that he DOESN'T have to change anything, and that he is that good so he doesn't NEED to make any changes...

And that is, wether you like it or not Fedors responsibility, and if he doesn't like way the M1 are representing him then he change managers. And again, he didn't so if you want to blame somebody, blame Fedor for not taking enough interest in his career OR for being so sure of himself that he didn't need to evolve as a fighter.

He came from PRIDE were he dominated, but everything has evovled since then AND i'm pretty sure Fedor has noticed that guys are more wellrounded now. He knows other fighters, talk to them, gives seminars.

So 'im pretty sure he knows what has happened in the sport, how it has developed and what other fighters do to prepare themselves.

I like the guy, he is this humble, super cool, ice cold russian legend that doesn't show that much emotion in interwievs.

But if he is goin to do this comeback, then he better do it the right way and start going to other camps, training with the best wrestlers in the states(or Alexander Karelin or other russian olympic wrestlers), black belt bjj guys and change his striking too.

His standup style is more of a brawler than a techniqal striker, and that he has gotten away with it for so many yrs is a testament to his speed, power and great chin. But guys are more wellrounded now and he will lose to the best strikers out there if he doesn't apply more technique and strategy there as well.

If he doesn't change he shouldn't come back at all, and i don't want to see him back in the tournament. HE LOST, now he is out!!!!!!

I think his days as the hw kingpin are over, but tons of respect for the guy.

But guys, HE is ultimately responsible for his own career, at the end of the day. The decisions are being made by Fedor, not M1.

He owns (part of)M1, they don't own him. HE IS THE BOSS!!!!!

Yeah, but i'm tired of all the people blaming M1 for his decline, and not holding the man himself responsible for it!!!!

If i have write a freaking book about it, to get it through peoples heads then so be it....

Dude he is a god. You haven't read the Fedor bible? You can get it at Borders and Hastings. Maybe Walmart and Target too. Look for it.

    It should be:

He can make money from M1 even if he's NOT fighting for them and choose to have somebody else represent him.
