WSOF 10 Results Recap: Branch, Glenn & Aguilar Take Home Gold In Title Fight Tripleheader

World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 10 went down tonight (Sat., June 21, 2014) from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the event provided a solid night of action with three title fights.

In the main event, David Branch took on Jesse Taylor for the middleweight belt. The fight kicked off with a scramble as Taylor went for a guillotine on the ground. Branch persevered to quickly turn the tables with a tight D’arce choke, earning the middleweight belt with an impressive first round finish under two minutes in.

Featherweight champion Georgi Karakhanyan faced Rick Glenn in the night’s co-main event. Karakhanyan immediately rushed for a power double leg takedown, softening up Glenn before locking on a vicious-looking armbar. But somehow Glenn got out to use his eight-inch reach advantage to land some good shots.

After a long clinching session from Karakhanyan to start the second, Glenn fought back with more and more overwhelming punches that nearly earned the stoppage. It soon came, as Karakhanyan could not answer the bell for the third round, reportedly suffering some broken ribs in the brutal beatdown from the 6’0” Glenn.

In other action, women’s strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar welcomed Japanese veteran Emi Fujino to the United States. Fujino proved a game challenger by landing several shots of her own in the first, but Aguilar landed a high volume of pinpoint strikes to badly bloody her nose.

Aguilar continued her clinic in the second, taking the fight to the ground in the third round to lock on a tight arm triangle choke that somehow didn’t earn a tap. Aguilar secured the mount to land some heavy ground and pound. An eye poke halted the action in the fourth, but Aguilar continued to push the pace. The champion controlled the action in the clinch and on the mat throughout the fifth to earn a unanimous decision.

UFC veteran Tyson Griffin squared off with Luiz Firmino at lightweight. After a back-and-forth grappling exchange to start the bout, the fighters traded in a heated exchange to close out an exciting first round. Firmino ate a ton of shots in the second, only to keep looking for submissions from Griffin’s back. Firmino absorbed more damage to finally get a takedown in the third, smothering Griffin with a torrent of punches to close out a unanimous decision victory.

Lance Palmer locked horns with Nick LoBosco to start the main card. Despite LoBosco’s forward movement, Palmer threw a higher volume of strikes, eventually taking his back to rain down power shots and lock on a super tight rear naked choke to earn his fourth submission win in the first round.
