UFC Fight Night 41 is underway, and the preliminaries have provided an exciting bunch of scraps. First fight of the evening was a heavyweight clash between Ruslan Magomedov and Viktor Pesta. The big guys got the night off to a great start, almost finishing each other with strikes in the first round, and battling through to the judges in a surprisingly enjoyable tilt. ‘The Leopard’ Magomedov took the nod after three thrilling rounds.

Next up was a featherweight bout between JMMA star Maximo Blanco, and Britain’s own Andy Ogle. The bout exploded in to action with ‘Maxi’ nearly scoring an instant KO with a flying front kick, but Ogle showed why he is one of the grittiest 145-pounders by surviving and scoring some big takedowns in the second stanza. The third round was all Blanco as he battered Ogle on the feet, as the Venezuelan took the judge’s decision.

Welterweights took to the octagon next, with Peter Sobatta taking on Pawel Pawlak. The German grappling ace Sobatta looked much improved in his stand up, and strong on the mat. Great return to the UFC for the hometown favourite, as he takes the UD. Down to the bantamweight division now, and Iuri Alcantara goes up against Vaughan Lee. Alcantara with a huge knockout, as he starches Lee with a big left hook.

Middleweights Magnus Cedenblad and Kryzystof Jotko up now, and it was another back and forth bout; Jotko proved to be a gutsy foe, but Cedenblad managed to force the tap with mere seconds left in round two. Great submission win by guillotine choke for Magnus. Nick Hein and Drew Dober round off the prelims at lightweight, and it was the local favourite ‘Sergeant’ Hein who looked dangerous with big hooks in round one.

The second and third were well contested, but the fact that both men were covered in Dober’s blood told the story of the fight. A gruesome slugfest for the most part, and a good end to a solid fight pass card thus far. Hein by UD. Bring on the main card!
