UFC 175 Main Card Recap: Rousey Smashes Davis, Weidman Gets Past Machida

UFC 175 is in the books from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, and the stacked card certainly lived up to expectations.

Headlining tonight’s card was a middleweight world title fight between the “All-American” Chris Weidman and former light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, and it turned out to be an all-out war.

The first round was a solid one for the champ, who pressured the Brazilian from the bell and attacked with a variety of strikes. The challenger got through with a couple of counters but needed more output. “The Dragon” was more successful in the second as he began to loosen up with his striking but Weidman put a stamp on the round by securing a takedown towards the end.

The third round was huge for Weidman, who busted the former champion open. But Machida came back with a vengeance in the fourth and had his opponent in a lot of trouble after catching him. However, his lack of volume let him down again and the “All-American” made it to the fifth.

Weidman came out and showed his heart in the final round, coming forward despite being hurt. Machida pushed forward, but failed to do capitalize on the champ when he was hurt as he went on to lose the decision.

The co-main event proved to be one of the main highlights of the night as Ronda Rousey defended her bantamweight crown by demolishing Alexis Davis in just sixteen seconds, knocking her out with a crisp right hand followed by a textbook judo throw. The performance was one of the champion’s best yet and she picks up her fourth straight UFC title defense. Davis suffers her first loss inside the Octagon and becomes another one of “Rowdy’s” victims.

The bout was was mighty close and looked even going to the judges but Doane took the nod to pick up his third straigh win in the division. Brimage moves to 0-2 in his last two fights.
