UFC 172 Gate & Attendance: Maryland-Based Card Draws Second Biggest Gate Of The Year

Tonight’s (April 26, 2014) UFC 172 event from the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore did not fail to deliver an ultra-exciting mix of action in the promotion’s debut in Maryland.

Featuring a record-setting seventh straight title defense by UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, the card was littered top-to-bottom with impressive knockouts and submissions, and even a back-and-forth war between Takanori Gomi and Isaac Vallie-Flagg.

From the initial look of things, fans responded with numbers that gave the card its due.

UFC 172 drew a reported gate of 13,485, which makes it the third largest of the UFC’s four total pay-per-views (PPVs) in 2014. While that may not sound like the best of results on the surface, UFC 172 did draw a reported gate of $2.3 million, a figure that makes it the second best drawing PPV of the year.

Official numbers are slated to be released later this week.

Overall, the event will go down as one the best all-around cards in UFC history, and deservedly so. It also seems like the UFC’s first foray into Maryland was a rousing success.
