UFC Veteran Gives Paddy Pimblett Zero Chance Against Charles Oliveira, Rejects ‘Best Submission Artist’ Claims
A UFC veteran believes Paddy Pimblett doesn’t stand a chance against Charles Oliveira.
While “Do Bronxs” is widely regarded as the best submission artist in the UFC, Pimblett disputes it. He has previously called out Oliveira, claiming he is the UFC’s best submission artist and wants to prove it by securing a submission win over the 36-year-old.
Most recently, “The Baddy” choked out Benoit Saint Denis unconscious, face-down, “eating canvas” in just 52 seconds at UFC 329 to return to winning ways. Pimblett is game for a showdown with Ilia Topuria, a rematch against Justin Gaethje, or fights with Max Holloway and Conor McGregor next. He has also shown interest several times in locking horns with Oliveira, as mentioned before.
However, Oliveira’s fellow countryman, Michel Pereira, says “Do Bronxs” operates on a different level altogether and believes no one in the UFC can match his jiu-jitsu, not even Pimblett. During an interview with Ignition Poker Brazil, the former UFC fighter said:
“No chance, he’s dreaming. Going toe-to-toe with Charles is a completely different level. When punches are flying in an MMA context, nobody matches Charles’ jiu-jitsu. If Charles is looking at the rankings and building momentum, I think Justin Gaethje is the much better option for him right now.”
What is next for Paddy Pimblett and Charles Oliveira?
BMF titleholder Charles Oliveira is rumored to run it back with Arman Tsarukyan next. The UFC has not yet made this bout official. Oliveira wanted to run it back with lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in a clash where Gaethje’s lightweight title and Oliveira’s BMF belt will be on the line. However, “The Highlight” has shown interest in facing top contender Tsarukyan.
Paddy Pimblett, on the other hand, could be facing his arch-rival Ilia Topuria, who lost his title to Gaethje earlier this year at UFC Freedom 250. Topuria is currently sidelined while recovering from two broken orbital bones and a fractured nose. Once he returns, a long-awaited grudge match with Paddy Pimblett could finally come to fruition.
This bout has the potential to become one of the biggest fights in UFC history given the intense bad blood between the two, and the promotion has the perfect opportunity to book it right now and label it a lightweight title eliminator.
