It was reported yesterday that Chael Sonnen’s head trainer, Scott McQuarry was appealing his fighter’s loss to UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 148 on several grounds. The Nevada State Athletic Commission’s director, Keith Kizer, said there were no grounds for an appeal, but that does not mean that the Champion is in NSAC’s good graces. The buildup to UFC 148 was characterized by a bitter rivalry, the likes of which had never been seen in the history of MMA.Sonnen’s trash talking became

Shogun Rua and the UFC are back on the same page

Recently, Dana White stated that Mauricio Shogun Rua was taking the strong stance of rather being cut by the UFC than fight Glover Texeira. Texeira was considered as the next opponent for Rua after his original opponent Thiago Silva was injured before their UFC on Fox 4 bout. This seemed to have caused some controversy between White and Rua’s team, who ultimately settled on a fight with Brandon Vera as the event’s headliner. When asked about White’s insinuation, Rua’s manager Julio Heller stepped up to

History of Violence: The highs and lows of "The Axe Murderer"

Violence. That is the first thought that pops into the head of any long-time fan of MMA when it comes to Wanderlei Silva. Unbridled, rampant, bloody, violence. The thought is both good and bad for him, as he is not the only to one to inflict pain when entering the ring/cage with another man. Roberts is one of those fighters who is comfortable whether he is on his feet or on the ground. Roberts is riding a five-fight win streak going into his Octagon debut and took some time out of Fight Week to speak with Lowkick.com.

Chael Sonnen granted TRT use exemption by NSAC

Today Chael Sonnen appeared before the Nevada State Athletic  Commission in a bid to gain a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for his well-documented use of TRT.  His request was indeed granted, and it appears that his UFC 148 Middleweight title bout with Anderson Silva will go down will much less controversy than their previous encounter. Of course Sonnen was suspended for six months following his UFC 117 loss after failing to inform the CSAC of his usage. This time, though, Sonnen is in the clear
