Sean O’Malley Is Open to Fighting a Former UFC Title Challenger NEXT, If One Condition Is Met
Sean O’Malley is open to fighting Cory Sandhagen next. However, ‘Suga’ has a specific condition in mind, and the promotion needs to agree to it for the matchup to come to fruition.
This past weekend at UFC 324, O’Malley returned to winning ways and snapped his two-fight losing skid by cruising to a controversial unanimous decision victory against Song Yadong.

O’Malley has shown interest in running it back with current and two-time bantamweight champion Petr Yan. However, ‘No Mercy’ will most likely meet Merab Dvalishvili in the coming months to complete their trilogy, which is currently tied.
In the meantime, O’Malley has now shown interest in taking on former title challenger Cory Sandhagen, who last fought at UFC 320 against then-champion Merab Dvalishvili, losing by unanimous decision.
On The Ariel Helwani Show, the former champ said that he’ll only accept the Sandhagen matchup if the promotion offers him title-fight-level pay.
“I want to fight for the belt [next], or pay me the same amount as I would get for a title fight, and I will fight Cory [Sandhagen]. For me, this has been a business since the beginning. Since day one, I’ve wanted to make as much money as possible… At the end of the day, the UFC tells you what to do.”

O’Malley vs. Sandhagen is a fight fans have been longing for, and the latter also called out ‘Suga’ recently as he aims to re-climb the bantamweight mountain after UFC 320 setback.
Sean O’Malley has two more fights left on his contract
Sean O’Malley wants to make the ‘Suga’ brand bigger and better, now that the UFC has signed a $7.7 billion, seven-year deal with Paramount. O’Malley revealed to Ariel Helwani that he has two fights left on his contract, and before his next bout, he will renegotiate, as he is convinced that the promotion will take care of him and give him the best as always. He said:
“I think I have two more fights left on mine. UFC doesn’t really like it when fighters fight out their contracts, because then you become a free agent. I feel like I’ll probably renegotiate before my next fight. UFC is always taking care of me; they’ve been very good to me.”
