Ranked UFC lightweight targets Paddy Pimblett after UFC 324 reality check

Paddy Pimblett

Mateusz Gamrot has criticized Paddy Pimblett’s performance against Justin Gaethje.

Last month, Pimblett and Gaethje locked horns for the interim lightweight championship at UFC 324. Despite ‘The Baddy’ entering the fight as a favorite, ‘The Highlight’ was quick to flip the script on fight night.

With relentless forward pressure, sharper striking, and pace, the 37-year-old knockout artist dogwalked Pimblett from start to finish and showed raw dominance. The Brit got his face pieced up and was dropped several times en route to a unanimous decision loss.

While Pimblett and Gaethje put on an entertaining show, the bout was less of a technical affair and was mostly pure stand-and-bang. Hence several fans and analysts criticized this bout.

Now, Mateusz Gamrot has weighed in on Pimblett’s underwhelming performance. In a recent interview, he opined that the UFC wanted the Liverpudlian to be a champion and offered him a title shot.

However, Gaethje ruined the promotion’s plans by dismantling Pimblett. ‘Gamer’ said:

“They wanted to push Paddy at all costs and make him champion. Fortunately or unfortunately, Gaethje simply ruined those plans. I think now they have brought him back down to earth, and he will be more accessible for other fighters, meaning for us to fight him, and also show where his place really is.”

About Pimblett vs. Gaethje, ‘Gamer’ further added:

“If you’re asking about the technical aspect, it wasn’t top-level.”

Mateusz Gamrot says he can verify gaps in Paddy Pimblett’s game

Mateusz Gamrot, who is currently the No. 7-ranked lightweight on the roster, showed interest in locking horns with ‘The Baddy.’ During the same interview, he added:

“I think it would be a great situation if I could face him and get the chance to fight Paddy, because firstly, it would be a great fight for me, but not necessarily for him. I think I could verify all these gaps in his game.”

Gamrot last fought Charles Oliveira in 2025, losing via submission in Round 2. The Polish fighter has lost two of his last three bouts. However, considering he has previously beaten Arman Tsarukyan and Rafael Fiziev, among others, he would be a dangerous challenge for the No. 6-ranked Paddy Pimblett.
